Glucose Test Success: What helped?

I failed my glucose test with my first pregnancy and would love to skip the extended testing this time. If you passed on your first attempt, did you eat beforehand? If so, what did you have, and how much time did you allow before the test?

I believe I ate before hand but I had HG and couldn’t stay with an empty stomach or I would vomit constantly. If you don’t want to do the glucose drink, you can request to do the finger prick for a week or 2 weeks to check your glucose. That said, you can also say no to the test altogether, that is your right as a patient especially if you didn’t have GD in the past. Now if you did have GD, I wouldn’t play with that.

It’s up to your doctor if you fast or not. But if you can eat just eat like bacon and eggs. Dont eat any carbs or anything sweet the morning or day of. Other than that nothing will make you pass or not. If you have GD they will be able to tell you but if you avoid carbs in the meals before that it won’t mess it up. If they tell you to fast then they will usually tell you not to eat for a certain time before hand

Technically you’re not supposed to eat before you do the glucose test because the meal would interact with the glucose results. I’d say try to get tested earlier in the morning that way you don’t have to wait super long to eat. 1 hr glucose test will go by quick. Also I think there is alternatives, like finger pricking for a week or so. But I would not suggest to not take that test especially if you have been diagnosed with GD in the past bc it’s important they check that too much sugar isn’t being passed along to baby. Hope things go well!!

You either have gd or you don’t. There’s no cheating the test.
