girl or boy? (two different blood test results)

so when i was supposed to have my initial nipt done, the appointment had to be rescheduled three times (i still showed up everytime only to be sent away after i had already driven there 🙃) due to the doctor/office’s incompetence- so the test that should’ve been completed on the 1st of the month wasn’t done until the 12th. well- me and my husband planned a gender reveal for the 22nd of the same month (started planning it when we thought the test would be done the 1st) and invited all our friends and family. i was told at first that it’d take about a week to get results back but that changed to three weeks somehow- and there was no way i was going to have them back in time for the party. so i did some research and ordered a $150+ Sneakpeak test- did it by myself at home and got the results back within 36 hours. it said boy! we were so excited- threw the party- told everyone about our 2nd son coming- and then about 3.5 weeks later (yes it took over a month to get them) we finally get the nipt results from my Ob. it’s a girl? the fetal fraction on the doctor’s test only said 6% and i know anything under 10% isn’t the most accurate for reading gender results- and we took the 2nd test about a week and change after the first one was done but there’s no chart or fractions on the sneakpeak results so no way to really compare the accuracy- my Ob insists the test she did has always been correct and that it is definitely a girl- but we already told everyone it wasn’t 🥲 she said to wait until the anatomy scan which i’ll have on april 16th- and that the ultrasound tech will look and confirm for sure but- what do you guys think? is it most likely a girl or boy? (i’ll put an ultrasound photo in the comments too but i don’t think you can see anything- nub people do ur thing i suppose lol)

Have you tried going to those ultrasound places where they tell you the gender?

The risk of male DNA contamination from an at-home test makes it more likely that your OBs test is correct.

@Betsy I’ve had plenty of ultrasounds from my drs office- doesn’t matter where you go i don’t think they can see anything until about 18-20 weeks for the anatomy scan

@Raqi I thought that maybe at first too but i did it alone and in a clean environment- my husband wasn’t even home and my son was asleep- there’s no men that could have touched it-

It doesn't matter if they're home or in the room, their DNA is everywhere in the home and there's a chance for contamination if you didn't clean and sterilize everything carefully

@Raqi not arguing with you- it is possible- but i did clean everything and as far as i know at least- kept all the items of the kit in a sterile environment- only took about 10 minutes to do the test and i immediately packaged it back up and mailed it that day.

Does sneak peak offer a refund if their results are wrong?

@Raqi yes but only with a copy of the baby’s birth certificate stating the official gender assigned at birth 🤦‍♀️

The NIPT blood test checks for male chromosomes and if none are present then it is a girl. So I'd say it's almost certainly a girl. Despite being super careful there is still risk of contamination with the sneak peek test when the result is a boy.

@Kristi if the fetal fraction is only 6% though its possible the Y chromosome was always there and just not strong enough to detect when i did the first test- this is part of why i mentioned that the second test was preformed a week later (could have more of baby’s dna in my blood therefore easier to detect the Y chromosome)

Sneakpeak is notorious for inaccurate results. If the NIPT test said girl, then you’re having a girl

I did the nipt test and it was 100 percent right for me my baby is definitely a girl and is 22 months old. My daughter who was pregnant at same time I was wanted a boy so bad she couldn’t wait for test results from nipt test so she went and bought early test kit off of Amazon it said she was having a girl she was upset but ok with it too she has a girl so she thought it be fine. I had a suspicion she was having a boy and she thought she was too. Well nipt test took two weeks for her to get back and mine was like a week. Anyway the results said it was a boy and when she went for ultrasound later on it was in fact a boy she was so happy. So she has a 5 yr old girl and a 22 month old boy.

I went to one and they were able to tell me when I was 13 weeks ☺️ maybe it was just a good guess but they got it right :)

I could see Bub's gender on an ultrasound at 16 weeks. I would let people know now that gender is up in the air. Otherwise, they might start buying gender specific items. Then I'd wait and see what happens at your anatomy scan. I had NIPT and was told boy, and he was a boy. I would trust NIPT over an at home test. Definitely wait and see, though.

I accidentally clicked boy whilst reading, Sneakpeek said my baby is a boy but the following four scans have been very clearly a girl! I actually looked into it and if you have already carried a boy (which I have too) their dna is still in your system so I think sneakpeek is much less accurate on your subsequent children as it’s quite a basic technology (is male dna present yes then it’s a boy) NIPT is much more thorough!
