Weaning

Maybe i’m being stupid? but i’ve seen a few posts on here about when people are weaning ect… I don’t understand (so would love for someone to explain🙈) why people say their kidneys/digestive system isn’t ready for food yet, however it CAN be advised by HV, paediatricians and doctors due to low weight, reflux ect… but if it was so bad for them why would it be safe to suggest it? I’m just extremely confused🫠 I have started giving my baby (4 nearly 5 months) the 4m+ purees and porridges as i was infact told by the doctor that i could start.. but now regardless of what the doctors said im extremely anxious im going to cause her issues? I just don’t like when other women seem to judge if some mums say they want to start weaning at 4months without approval from professionals.. they’re the only ones that know their babies and i’m sure they don’t want to be judged for that…

If you feel your baby is ready then you do what’s best for you and your baby! No one can judge you for that! In regards to having babies someone will always judge or have an opinion. But only you know your baby well! So go for it girl! Your a good mama💗

Honestly I don’t see the rush into weaning . Babies main source of food is milk up until 1 yo anyways . With my first we waited until we saw he was ready , he could sit up on his own and he was interested in food which was at 6 months . This November baby she is a preemie so we might even start at 7 months depends if she is ready or not . She can’t even hold her head properly yet 😂 if you think he is ready that’s fine but I wouldn’t do anything without discussing with health professionals. Early weaning is only great for babies with bad reflux or slow weight gain .

You know best for your baby. In the past people started weaning at 4 months and a lot of people follow their parents / grandparents advice on this. The world health organisation does not recommend weaning until baby is 6 months. And thia is also NHS advice. In know some food says 4 months. In the UK there's a campaign by various groups supporting children. They're trying to change the law and make it illegal to advertise any food for anyone below the age of 6 months. I don't know if this will become and thing or not soon.

Scientific research shows that for most babies there are not really any benefits to early weaning but there are some risks (digestive issues later in life etc). For some babies experiencing issues such as reflux, there potentially ARE some advantages as sometimes weaning provides immediate relief from their symptoms which is obviously a huge benefit. It is up to parents to talk things over with a professional in order to make an informed decision about whether the immediate benefits outweigh the potential risks later in life. I know you say you have started weaning early and you are worried but the risk is very small and it is likely she will be fine. It’s not like every baby weaned at 4 months WILL have issues and it’s not even like there’s a guarantee that every baby weaned at 6 months WON’T; there’s just a lower risk. Hope this helps x

thanks everyone! was genuinely just curious and confused! x
