Sauna

Hey ladies I have a spa day booked for this weekend. I’m 22 weeks pregnant and I really want to use the sauna. Google says it’s okay, has anyone used the sauna in their second trimester ?

I wouldn't risk using a sauna in pregnancy, you are at risk of overheating and dehydration and that is dangerous for the baby ☺️

I wouldn’t risk it 🙈

I also would avoid it and in most spas I’ve been to they usually have signs on the sauna, steam and hot tubs advising pregnant women not to go in. Xx

A Finn here !!🙋🏼‍♀️ In Finland about 90 percent of the population goes to sauna at least once a week pregnant women included. No Finnish doctor would ever advice not going to sauna pregnant unless you have a condition like high blood pressure or have a high risk pregnancy for some reason. I don’t think there is data that supports this sauna ban that seems to be prevalent elsewhere, there are no more birth defects or pregnancy complications in Finland than anywhere else so I’m not entirely sure why this ban is a thing 😅 But it could also be that Finnish people are just very used to sauna and know not to stay too long etc. I’ve been going to sauna whenever I get a chance 🥰

I went to a spa when I was pregnant but they had different saunas at different temperatures and I just stuck to the milder one and left when I felt I was getting too hot. Just remember, it's not just about you passing out etc,if you're hot, your baby is hotter.

Hey mama Spa sounds amazing and will be so relaxing! You just need to check their policy as I remember doing a spa day with my pregnant friend and they wouldn't let her use the jacuzzi let alone the sauna. I didn't use the spa at my gym during my pregnancy I was too afraid of overheating xx

I used jacuzzi when I was pregnant tbh the one at my gym isn’t that warm. I thought after first trimester biggest risks with saunas/jacuzzis are to do with overheating and dehydration so just didn’t stay in too long. The same approach with everything is just to be sensible

This might make you feel better, just skip to the conclusion https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/53/13/799
