Upper lip tie

So my little one is 8 weeks today and I’ve just happened to notice he has quite a severe upper lip tie. Has anyone had any experience with this and what the solutions are! I feel horrible that I haven’t noticed it sooner but none of the midwives/health visitors or doctors have picked it up either 🥲

I've noticed one on my son as well. I've flagged it to my health visitor who referred me to a lactation consultant. They then refused to see me, it's apparently not something they deal with 🙄 I've noticed that he has a shallow latch when breastfeeding and dribbles out the sides of his mouth when drinking from a bottle. But the GP will only do something if he's struggling with weight gain

Hi, my little one had his tongue tie snipped when he was two weeks old and I noticed he had a lip tie as well. When I spoke to MW she said it might be worth speaking to a dentist as it may affect their teeth growth 🤷🏼‍♀️ other than that I’m none the wiser what to do! My eldest is under a private dentist for his tongue tie so I was going to ask him his thoughts. Not sure if that’s something you can do xx

Or maybe speak to a private tongue tie specialist as they may be able to advise you, although I’m not sure how much it would cost. I’ve just seen you’re in Kirklees, my little boy has been to the dentist called town hall dental at Brighouse, not sure how far away that is for you but the dentist is absolutely lovely! You could enquire with them, the consultation we had was £100 xx

@Lauren I was told by my midwife that the infant feeding team can help with lip/tongue ties, may be worth trying to call them? Xx

I believe my baby has a lip tie too. But I've always read that in the UK they won't do anything about lip ties as they aren't thought to impact on feeding the same way as tongue ties are.

Yes my girl has one and has had a horrible latch since forever because of it. Her top lip doesn’t sit very well against a bottle to create a seal because it pulls her lip down. So annoying. NHS won’t touch lip ties in less there was a serious problem with it. Only tongue ties. I tried to go private but a private practitioner who does tongue ties said flat out no for doing a lip tie.
