Constipation
I’m after some advice/help/support. Please try to stay away from judgment/criticism.
My 3 year old boy is suffering terribly from constipation and it has been going on for weeks now, on and off. The first time he had it he managed to pass his poo after a couple days but the times between him doing a poo are getting longer and longer, this time it has been almost two weeks and multiple trips to the drs for different medications.
Our resort today is going to be trying to get suppositories up his bottom. Has anyone had to do this with their little one and managed to get it up there? He’s barely letting me wipe his bottom so I’m worried about how I’ll even get a tablet up there. Has anyone ever had to take their child to hospital before for severe constipation?
Before anyone says anything he doesn’t eat a lot of vegetables as he refuses but they are always on his plate, fruit is hit and miss at times too.
I just need someone to reassure me that all will be okay. I’m so scared for him and his health.
Hi try maybe mixing some blended prune or prune juice in babies yoghurt or a couple of table spoons of prunes in water. There is also constipation tea you can buy on Amazon for baby/toddler age group, or raspberry/strawberry blended and made into a juice. Blending foods like courgettes are excellent as they are water based. If the constipation is getting worse definitely take him to a&e, or can a gp do a hospital referral for maybe some gastro tests/consultation if it becomes a major worry. Suppositories shouldn't be that difficult normally you put the person on their side, but if you feel like you need someone to help distract him that might be a good idea or an ipad. I think he will be okay but looks for signs like not passing urine or general unwellness with it.
