It happened to my cousin. She was told she was having a girl right up until around a month before baby was due and then they said boy. They told her it’s more common that way around that being told it’s a boy but it’s actually a girl. I asked them to check at every scan I had!
My ex sis in law was told she was having a girl in the October. She had a boy in the August 🙈
I don’t know entirely how it happened but my sister in law expected a boy her whole pregnancy. She had two scans with the nhs. One at 12 weeks and one at 20. The second one they told her it was a boy so that’s what we expected the whole time. When they text us they were like “She’s here” and I was like… ummmmm who? 🤣🤣
You must have microscopic vision!
I know someone who was told she was carrying a little girl, had a huge baby shower with a load of pink stuff, all girly outfits and gifts, then about a month later posted, “introducing our son - a bit of a shock as we were expecting a girl!” and then had to try and refund/exchange all her gifts 😣 my cousin is a GP and during her training she worked in delivery suite and said it is so much more common than you think with people expecting the opposite sex! I never found out with either of mine though! X
That’s why I did NIPT blood test and then also got it confirmed with the anatomy scan cause I figure it’s hard to get it wrong with both a decently accurate blood test and then an ultrasound as well (mine was at 20 weeks). Ultrasounds really aren’t super accurate since boys can hide and sometimes the umbilical cord can appear like a penis for girls.
My mum was told my sister was a boy (this was the late 90s) turns out they think what they saw on the scan was her hand inbetween her legs 🤦🏻♀️🤣 luckily they picked a unisex name but definitely a shock when she was born
In modern times with up to date ultrasound machines and they had multiple ultrasounds, were told the incorrect gender I have started to wonder if maybe these children are intersex and of course the parent isn’t going to announce that to the world, so they switch the gender up and say it was a mixup.
That’s why I don’t find out gender. I know someone’s that’s happened to lol and I just thought we’d keep gender a surprise at the end.
I am surprised it is so common. Especially when multiple gender scans have been done. I am sure they love the kids either way, but I get it as you start to imagine a bond with a particular gender.
@Dana 🦅♥️🤍💙 Depends where you live. In the UK low risk pregnancies only receive two scans - at 12 and 20 weeks. It is most common to be incorrectly told you’re having a girl when you’re having a boy because depending on the baby’s position, their genitals can be mistaken for labia etc. But of course you’re right that with intersex children the parents may just decide one way or the other and say it was a mistake.
You can see external genitalia but not things like ovaries. Some boys can be a bit shy or cross their legs and hide it. I didn’t find out with either but both babies hid their bits with crossed knees at almost every scan 😂
