Antenatal health visit home visit - updatešŸ¤°šŸ»šŸ«¶šŸ»

So Iā€™ve just had my antenatal health visit home visit and I found it very informative. She spoke to us about breastfeeding, our overall health and wellbeing, our background info such as what we do for work etc, she also signed me up for antenatal breastfeeding support so Iā€™m booked in for my first one on the 7th of may. She also brought babyā€™s red book aswellšŸ„°šŸ¤°šŸ»

Hi, first time mum here. Do they come to your house during pregnancy or after the baby is born ?

@Tomi hey, you have your first contact with your health visitor while pregnant between 28-32 weeks. They then come out once youā€™ve had baby aswellšŸ«¶šŸ»

Depends where you are. We donā€™t have any pre-birth visits. Was supposed to have one day after came home which was replaced with a phone call (not enough staff šŸ™„) . Then I think a health visitor actually came once about a week after returning home.

@Jennifer if your in the UK itā€™s standard to have one between 28-32 weeks, if you havenā€™t had one or been booked in for one then I would ring your local health visiting servicešŸ«¶šŸ»

I donā€™t think it is standard in London. This is my second, I didnā€™t have a pre-baby visit with my first and no suggestion of one this time round and Iā€™m currently 31 weeks. ( Iā€™m not sure I really need it, given this is my second in any case). I did have a 28 week Midwife appointment but it wasnā€™t a home visit - and they even forgot to book this so I had to spend an hour in a call center queue to book it. I donā€™t think the services are very good where I am - even though it is st Thomasā€™ catchment which is meant to be a good hospital.

@Jennifer itā€™s standard all over the uk lovely, it says so on the NHS website. This is also my second child and Iā€™ve had one with both of mine. If thereā€™s summer dream forgetting to book you in for important midwife appointments like your 28 week to the point youā€™ve got to chase it then maybe theyā€™ve forgot to book you in for your antenatal HV appointment. I would personally ring your local HV service and speak to them about jt x

Itā€™s really not necessary - no one I know locally has had one. So I donā€™t think they do it here. I know how to breastfeed etc, so all they would be doing would be to check my house is safe for a baby (which I know it is)ā€¦

@Jennifer Iā€™m not saying itā€™s necessary Iā€™m saying itā€™s a standard appointment in the uk lovely that everyone is supposed to have between 28-32 weeks according to the NHS website. They donā€™t check your house at this appointment lovely thatā€™s usually at your first contact with them once baby is born x

Also from London and not standard here, although this is my first all my friends/siblings are on their second/third babies and none have had a pre birth visit :)

@Rosie I guess everywhere is different Iā€™m just going off the NHS website which says itā€™s a standard appointment while pregnant between 28-32 weeks lovely x

@Libby-mae very true :) Never even knew that a visit before the baby arrived was a thing šŸ˜‚

I never had a HV appointment before the birth with my first and havenā€™t had any contact regarding one with my second, and Iā€™m almost 32 weeks. Iā€™m based in Bristol!

@Julia Iā€™m guessing every area is different thenā€¦my mistake! I was just going off what the NHS website said x

Im based in the West Midlands and didn't have one during pregnancy with my first, now haven't had any contact about another. I know in my area the health visitors are super understaffed It sounds like a lovely idea though instead of a stranger showing up to meet you and your newborn babybat your house

@Chloe it is lovely I agree, itā€™s also very informative, Iā€™ve had one with my first and then this baby x
