You need a reasonably sized one. My first years do different sizes- get the biggest. You'll need to fit lots of spare changes of clothes, especially when they're older and potty training.

Honestly we've just bought normal backpacks you'd see a teenager taking to school. Fits everything in like sleeping bag etc.
