I'm really intrigued, why do American films always show people drinking from red cups at parties?

Is this actually a thing and if so, why?

Never took notice to it 😂

Yes. Many of us have them in our kitchens at any given time. Not just red they can be any color but the original brand, Solo made red cups

@Bethany oo interesting, just curious as in the UK we just drink from anything really 😂

They're sturdier and can be washed and reused better than other plastic cups or paper or Styrofoam

Yup. Very popular in college too. You play drinking games with them

Examples above, beer pong & flip cup 😆

Not always red but it is pretty common. We don't have them all the time but for parties and stuff I'll usually buy a big package.

Good observation. I’m not American by birth bt by immigration I didn’t grow up using these cups cuz my mom made us use real cups even in America bt after meeting my Husband, he is American & from the Midwest (its middle America & very stereotypical) of America bt they play beer pong etc. like @Brittany said it’s for drinking games & jus the typical go to disposable cup for pretty much everything & anything lol. I personally like to use for Memorial Day/labor day/ 4th of July cups cuz they go with red white & blue themes & decor bt honestly u can get any color. I had a fire house themed birthday party for my son & I got those cups in yellow &orange to go with theme of fire bt the red & blue ones are most popular ones X

Solo cups are popular here at parties and events. But I think it’s more about showing brand labels in movies/shows. They avoid advertising brands for financial reasons.

Red solo cup. I fill you up. Let’s have a party.

@SquishyMommy1 Was hearing this song in my head lol

They're our party cups

@Genevieve where’s the red solo cup meme you posted that one time lmfao

Those are party cups

Red solo cup I’ll fill you up Let’s have a party

I found them in a shop in the UK once and had to buy them! It’s so American, like the stuff from all the movies. We just don’t have a “party” cup here, at parties you just get whatever glass/cup is available. At university I regularly drank wine from a mug 😂

@Sarah idk why bt I jus read ur comment in a British acccent 😭 I love it cuz I’m like what in the bloody hell

we love them so much there’s actually a song about them lol 😂

@Sarah haha yeah, we just grab anything capable of holding liquid basically 😂

@Annie lol what's it called?

The song is literally called Red Solo cup 😂

You can’t play beer pong without red solo cups!

@Sydney we played it with stolen pint glasses from the pubs 😂

Just a move tactic to disguise water in a scene

🎶 Red solo cup, I'll fill you up, let's have a party, came here to party 🎶

It's because the name brand of disposable cups their "original" color is red. People don't want to wash a million cups after a party so they buy a sleeve of Solo cups and they are typically red.

Who’s about to be washing dishes all night after a party 🤣🤣🤣 we get plastic cups

They even have a song about the little red solo cup 😂 Americans are weird that way but that’s just how they are lol I thought it was silly too

Solo cups aside from being pretty sturdy for disposable cups Also have measurement lines for different types of drinks (shots, wine, beer) And nowadays there’s stainless steel cups that are molded the same way which are great for multi use if the waste is an issue We use stainless steel cups in our house because they’re light weight and we don’t have to worry about them breaking and I just don’t like plastic cups

@Asha that's cool because it must cause a lot of plastic waste otherwise

I had wondered about that as well actually! 😄

It is definitely a thing lol 😂 I don't think most of us could explain why, I guess you could say because we like red but I don't think that's really even why for most of us truthfully. I would just say its just something most of us grew up around anytime adults around us would party and have a good time so maybe mentally that's what we lowkey associate red cups for parties 🤣
