Pregnant mums with pcos. How is your pregnancy being dated?

I have PCOS which means i’d have irregular periods and very delayed ovulation. Before i got pregnant the first day of my last period was 6th December however i was ovulating and conceived my baby mid/end January. I have had 2 NHS scans so far. The first was dating scan and i was measuring 8+4 weeks and had my 12 week scan just over a week ago where i was measuring 12+2 weeks pregnant. Because of my PCOS the prediction of my current gestation is different to the average pregnancy (they add 2 weeks if you have regular periods). Im currently 13+6 weeks pregnant but i was given a midwife appointment since they thought i was actually 16 weeks pregnant. The midwife decided it was ok to keep me as 16 weeks on the system which i feel like is going to mess up my whole pregnancy experience as i will be given all my appointments too early and possibly i’m worried that they may induce labour in the future (I’m hoping for 100% natural birth as this is my first pregnancy). My due date according to the measurements of my baby which i believe is most accurate is 4th October however the midwife said it may be end of September depending on their predictions. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this. Should i be worried. I was a bit frustrated and felt like i wasn’t listened to as my cycle is different than the average woman’s. Any tips/suggestions please leave a comment

That seems really odd, I found out I was pregnant in September but I hadn’t had a period since February and that was a medicated one as I don’t have periods at all. I had a scan a week after I found out and as there was no heartbeat went back 10 days later and was around 6 weeks 1 day. They booked my 12 week scan in line with that and what I was on that scan was what they’ve dated me at, I’ve not had 2 weeks added or anything! X

Id be going by the 12 week scan cos thats the official dating one.

How did you know you were ovulating? We're you tracking it? I have PCOS and so I know the exact day I conceived based on my tracking and so I would add 2 weeks to that and go for the nearest date to that?

@Charlie i used an app called P.C to track my periods. The more you use the app the more accurate it is and i had been using it for about over a year. Just before trying to conceive i also got an at home ovulation test kit which confirmed the app was very accurate for me.

@Natalie right thats what i thought too! Thank you

@Sarah thank you! at my next midwife appointment I’ll probably be asking them to go based off of the scans

If you were tracking ovulation then I'd deffo go for the date closest to your ovulation date plus 2 weeks then? Which is the 12 week scan right? I would also be cautious about keeping it as 16 weeks if you're actually less as you say it will impact on their advice about induction as you say. I had a home birth so I would want to ensure my due date was right or else it would affect whether that was possible for me

My first was done by a dating scan as I hadn't had a period for 6 months prior to getting pregnant with her so I would definitely go off the scan. My 2nd was done by period date until my 12 week scan and then my due date moved with the measurements from that x

@Naomi thank you!!

@Charlie thank you i’ll definitely be changing my next midwife appointment and try get it to be on track with what the scan says

My EDD based on menstrual cycle was 21/03 but the dating scan said it’s actually 4/4 (today lol) so I must’ve ovulated two weeks later. They went off the dating scan and ignored the EDD

@Issy this is how it should be i believe. I think i just got unlucky with the midwife that day😭 its frustrating when they just make a guesstimate instead of going based off of scans

Definitely! I’m surprised they did that, hopefully the next midwife will correct it :)

Mine is dated based on the 12 week scan and not LMP, due to the difference between EDD of the LMP and dating scan (2 months difference) they are giving me growth scans though, so on the plus side I get to see the baby more :). So far babies growth etc is tracking in line with the due date from the 12 week scan.

@Lauren thank you!! Lucky you get to see baby more often🥰
