Subclinical thyroidism

Hey, ladies. So I have a question, so I’m 25 weeks pregnant with my baby boy. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I got diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism. Has anyone been through this? Also too I found out I have a very low vitamin D deficiency. Obviously I’m taking supplements for that. But has anyone had this same issue? Did you have to be put on medication and did it go away after pregnancy? Thoughts. I’m having alot of anxiety about this and I have my appointment tomorrow and I feel alone because no one I know has had this issue? Mind you my daughter is almost 20 months and I never had any of these problems with I was pregnant with her. My tsh levels was a 5.851 and my T4 was in normal range but on the boarder line of being low. Like right at the 0.35 cut off. I need some hope at this point. I just don’t wanna be on thyroid medication for the rest of my life I never had this problem up until this pregnancy so what are some talks experiences if yall had the same issue. Mind you too all my other levels looked great. Aside from the fact of being pregnant but.

I have hashimotos and got diagnosed during my first pregnancy. It has been almost 3 years. I am currently pregnant with my second. The only thing that has changed is the dosage of medication I’ve had to be on (based on weight so typically higher during pregnancy and can lower later on). I’ve never heard of it just going away but never say never 🤷‍♀️ i have heard of people lessening symptoms by changing their diet. You could talk to a holistic nutritionist about it. I know being on meds isn’t ideal but it’s only one pill once a day to keep your levels in check…I don’t think it’s a big deal personally. It’s worth it to help your body get the hormone regulation you need.

@Christine Is it possibly due to like prior pregnancies? Or how come it just now evolves? I guess they said it was slightly elevated but I guess I’m just curious as to why I never had problems before and now all of sudden I get diagnosed with this?

@Christine also how was your birth? On the meds? Can you breastfeed with taking said medication?

@Chyanne Nix there is a genetic component to it. Idk that pregnancy triggered it, it’s more likely just that it was discovered because you get a lot of blood work done during pregnancy. Some things just develop as you go along in life. One day you don’t have a diagnosis and the next day you do. Hashimotos is an autoimmune disorder that can develop at any age.

@Chyanne Nix the only effect that I was told was it can result in a slightly lower birth weight. My son was an oz shy of 7lbs so he wasn’t huge but he was perfectly healthy. Yes you can breastfeed on the medication.

@Christine so how do they determine what exactly causes it? And do you have to be on medication for the rest of your life?

@Christine okay. Yeah that was my biggest concern bc I plan to breast feed and I go see the doctor tomorrow so I just to be hit with something like this is very scary in my opinion bc I hear how they can either overdose or underdose you and bad things can happen

@Chyanne Nix exact cause isn’t know…so like I said, I’ve heard some people having success managing their levels with things like diet change but officially there’s no cure.

@Christine oh wow that’s crazy

@Chyanne Nix well when they put you on medication they will change the dosage and do more blood tests to make sure you’re on the right dosage. But they prescribe certain dosages for a reason, it’s not just a guessing game. If they get your dose slightly off they’ll just adjust it. It’s really not a big deal. I know it’s new and scary but it’s an easily managed diagnosis. Hang in there 💕

@Christine thank you so much!!💕
