Measuring Large

Had my 36 week growth ultrasound. Baby is measuring a week+ ahead. They are also measuring him at about 7 pounds. I know the ultrasounds aren’t perfect and he could be smaller than that. Was just curious of other people’s experiences with larger growth scans. I’m a little nervous he is going to keep growing like crazy and then I’ll have a very large baby (especially if he ends up late).

So I just had my baby 3 weeks ago and he was born at 37 weeks 5 days and weighed 8.2 pounds! He always measured ahead as of my growth scan at 33 weeks then I had another growth scan the day I was induced (since I did not know I was gonna be induced that day lol) and they measured him day of at 8.5. I hear ultrasounds can be off but in my case it was pretty spot on! Since he was born early though I’m not sure about how the ultrasounds continue to measure over time

@Lyrica thank you! I do know someone that was measuring 39 weeks and 8 pounds at her 36 week ultrasound. She induced at 39 weeks and he was 8 pounds 6 oz. So I’m hoping I’m similar and he isn’t going to gain too much more in the next couple weeks! A lot of my apps say babies only gain a half pound to pound more from this point to 40 weeks, so again, hoping he doesn’t get too much bigger 🤞🏻

At my 36 week growth scan my son was measuring 40 weeks +2 days, 8lbs 3oz. He ended up being 10lbs at birth so mine was pretty accurate.

@Cheyann when did you end up delivering?

@Ali I hope that is the case for you!! I was definitely questioning how big my little guy would have been if he went full term 😅 I keep thinking he would have been like 10 pounds but I guess I won’t ever get to know.

I had the same experience with my baby. At 36 weeks, she was measuring 6 lb 10 oz and 1-2 weeks ahead. I had her at 40+3 and she only weighed 7 lb 8 oz which was less than anyone expected. I was also nervous she would end up being too big, but that wasn’t the case. Hopefully it’s the same for you!

@Ali 39 weeks 4 days. I opted for a c section because his head was also measuring 8 weeks ahead at 36 weeks and they refused to induce me earlier than 39 weeks and I knew he was going to get stuck like his daddy did.

@Cheyann dang, 8 weeks ahead! Luckily mine is only one week ahead on all fronts

@Ali yeah, he was a big boy, still is. His head has always been in the "greater than 99th percentile". I'm now pregnant with twins and as of my 28 week growth scan they were measuring about the same as he did at that point so I'm kinda scared I'm going to end up with 9lb twins if I go to 38 weeks 😬

@Cheyann crazy! I’m curious if they will just have you induce early, since twins a lot of times don’t make “full term”

At 34 weeks scan by baby measures 7lb 7oz, over 99th percentile. I am having a very large baby. My first every scan was pretty much bang on I felt as she came out exactly what they estimated as was growing between 98-99th percentile and was born on 99th percentile at 38+6 at 9lb 8oz.

My second was ahead in his scans, they predicted he would be around 9lbs…. He was born a week late and only 7.5lbs… I wouldn’t worry about it too much!
