Travelling abroad with a newborn ✈️

I'm wanting to go to my home country to surprise my husband's parents with their granddaughter but I'm super nervous getting on that airplane with a newborn.. Anyone have any advice on how to have a smooth journey?? because just the thought of it is giving me anxiety as it will only be me and baby travelling.

How long is the flight? Are you BF or formula? How old will your baby be? I’ve been getting loads of tips for flying with a baby as I’ll be doing a few short & long haul flights in the next few months!

We flew to Abu Dhabi when our LB just turned 9 weeks old. He was good as gold. The flight is 7.5hrs and he slept most of that, had 2 feeds and 1 bum change. He was asleep for take off and landing too. We use white noise at home and think that helped him as the plane sounds the same. All the flight attendants were so helpful.

I’m in a similar situation! Also travelling to my home country to surprise grandparents with baby. Baby will be shy of four months, is breastfed and is a really great sleeper. I’m still a bit nervous but that’s cuz I don’t like travelling or bringing attention to myself and it’s a 12 hour flight.. I’m already packed and repacked and our trip is in a few weeks. Knowing where everything is will help I’m sure. Things I plan on doing: Having a really healthy and filling meal before our flight Giving baby some Panadol an hour before flight Travelling light (3 carry on bags and a stroller) no checked luggage Dressing comfortable and in removable layers so I can adjust with temperature Staying calm because I know baby picks up on that Breastfeeding for take off and landing Good luck 🤞🏼 you got this ✈️

We’re flying to South Africa on Tuesday with LO will be 10wks so following for any tips, but also can add any next week 😅 As it’s a long flight we’ve got a bassinet, and hoping she’ll sleep most the way. Plan on BF on take off and landing. Wearing a sling for airport, taking swaddle bag and Ewan sheep onboard, maybe the sun shade too incase it’s too bright. I was going to do boots click and collect for nappies and formula, but think I’ve left it too late as it says aim for delivery 3 days before to make sure it arrives, so thinking I might check in the pram in a pram bag and use nappies to pad it out with beach towels too which I seen recommended.

I have only travelled with my daughter when she was a bit older, but travelling with both end of May when my little boy will be just over 16/17 weeks to South Africa. What worked for us and what we will be doing - book bassinet seat - take baby in carrier but also have a airline approved stroller which you can take to gate - bag packed with lots of clothes, nappies, favourite toy - night time flight (if possible) - feed on take off and landing Ask flight attendants if you need help, that’s what they are there for and try not to worry about anyone else on the plane. ❤️

@Kathy The flight is 3 hours, I'm Formula feeding, She'll be 3 months old. 🩷

@Ali Oh wow, 7.8 hours is so long!! 😮 I'm glad you had a smooth journey 💕

@Tiffany 12 hours?!?! 😱 Good luck mama 💜

@Jess Unfortunately the airline I'll be flying with doesn't offer bassinet seats and I can't get an extra leg room seat due to the fact it's on the emergency exit rows and you can't sit there if you have an infant.. The flight is at night though and at night so I'm hoping she will sleep through the entire thing! 💚
