This was us with our first , there was no medical reason for our baby being small so we declined an induction at 39w and went into Labour naturally at 39+1. The study they quoted to us about still birth was a very small study and didn’t apply to us as the study group included babies small for gestational age for medical reasons. Ask them for the study there quoting.
@Claire midwife feels l should be going for an induction but they have also failed to answer a lot of questions they just keep talking about their guidelines and studies, l have opted to review this after a week and days if baby does not come early
I’ve just pushed mine back to 41+1 (I’m 38+5 now) I’ve agreed to a sweep at 40+5 but hoping he’ll arrive before then. If not, I’m hoping he’ll be so close the sweep just helps him along to avoid the induction My midwife didn’t seem worried at all and I honestly believe that they book inductions in just to help with staffing levels
I’d ask them to explain to you how the stats relate specifically to your pregnancy and your baby. Maybe you just make smaller babies? Also why will inducing an early labour and giving baby less time to grow and develop put them in a better position? You really do have to probe them with the difficult qs but I wouldn’t feel bad about it because they throw the word stillbirth around with wild abandon because they know it will make mums consent. They outright lied to me about the risk to make me consent with my second. It’s all about their precious stats and not about what’s best for babies and mums. Stick to your guns gal. If your instinct tells you baby is ok waiting a little longer, then wait 🤷🏻♀️
Aside from anything else, they cannot POSSIBLY know the exact size of baby until they’re out. They’ve “guessed” both of mine wrong.
You’ve got to do what’s best for you and also do your own research as well as asking all the questions. When we asked why they wanted to induce me at 39 weeks for high bp the reasonings were things like risk of developing pre-eclampsia, placental abruption, and also the baby is a good size now and at 38 weeks is “fully cooked”, so they said there isn’t any benefit of leaving him in there longer while the risk of the other things increased and that explained it a bit more to me to be able to make my decision. They’ll just monitor you daily or more regularly if you don’t opt for the induction x
You’re within your rights to decline an induction. What has your midwife said? I’ve was pushed into booking an induction as I have a big baby but again they’ve just told me it’s because of possible tearing and shoulder dystopia but when I asked them for evidence a big baby can increase the risk they couldn’t give me any as the risks are there for smaller babies too I pushed for another scan to aid my decision to push back a week. I also told them that the stress of an induction won’t help me or my baby. I want baby to come when it’s ready
