Some babies are just smaller than others. Also, bump measurements are notoriously inaccurate as they can vary due to baby’s positioning etc. With my son, I was referred for a growth scan at 28 weeks due to a ‘small’ bump, then another at 32 weeks due to a large bump with accelerated growth. In reality, baby had just moved and at both scans, he measured on the 50th centile so was bang average. I got my scan date there and then at one midwife appt as she rang and booked immediately. With the 32 week one, I had the appt on a Friday then got a phonecall on the Monday to book it in for the next day.
Also, my daughter measured small on multiple growth scans, every two weeks from 32 weeks to 38 weeks. She came at 39 weeks bang on, and weighed 6lb 9oz so not overly small at all. I’d just say try not to worry yourselves, as long as baby is following the centiles and growing well then that’s what matters 😊
In all honesty most midwives/nurses get it wrong most of the time. They always say baby is measuring too big or too small.. so they make this great plan of how they might need all sorts of instruments possibly even a c section if your baby’s too big, so it stresses out the mother worries her etc for the baby to come out normal sized…
i was told my baby was measuring small basically the whole pregnancy and had lots of growth scans. they never found a reason why, everything checked out okay she was just small! remember that ultrasound measurements can be very inaccurate. fundal height is also not an accurate measurement, everyone carries differently. my advice is to trust your gut and intuition. they wanted to induce based on my baby’s size but i declined and she was born perfectly healthy and bigger than they said she would be. i honestly think the fussing over measurements is unnecessary and causes unnecessary stress
My baby was measuring small, had growth scan they said he was around 5lb 6. They did some monitoring, all was fine. He was born 11 days early and 5lb 4, healthy no nicu required. He's now a happy healthy 3 year old! Some people just have small babies x
