@Amanda thanks for this I may call the GP and ask see what they say like I said hes not an unhappy baby but I know they should poo regularly
I think the first stage for a GP is to give lactulose. We had the same and also went to comfort milk. We’ve since spoken to other doctors and they have said that they should’ve really have a laxative that young and if you can avoid comfort milk to do that too, We’re now stuck on comfort milk and it’s a faff. We stopped using the laxative after 2 rounds cause it felt wrong to us to give it to a 3 week old. Have you tried using a couple of bottles of the ready made formula? Health visitors and doctors have said it can act a little like a laxative as it’s higher in sugars so might be worth a go?! I wish I’d tried that first before ending up on comfort milk. Also, there is still the old school way of cooled boiled water. NHS don’t recommend anymore but it’s what generations before us did and it feels more natural than giving a baby a laxative to me 🤷🏻♀️ it’s also on the healthier together NHS app as a fix for constipation (mixed messages!!)
@Sophie thanks for this it’s really helped we definitely won’t go back to the comfort milk but when we go out today I shall definitely get the pre made bottles and try that if he gets constipated honestly you get so worried about them when you have people in your ear and I know he’s not distressed with it as he’s such a happy boy x
@Kirsty good luck! It’s not fun to watch and they can’t tell us what’s wrong bless them 😩 Also we hit the 8 week jabs and honestly he hasn’t stopped going to the toilet since and it’s been 2 weeks so don’t know if it did something to him but he no longer strains, it’s mental to us after previous 8 weeks of constipation 😂
@Sophie ah that’s good he was fine when he was in hospital at the start and when he came home it’s hard to tell when he has had the constipation issues from but not sure if his jabs have affected his pooing x
I would speak to gp about long term use, i was told when my eldest was a baby and had same issue wasn't for long term. She was always very constipated tho but switched her to comfort milk and it helped a little. In regards to sleep my 7 week old only sleeps for small periods has about 2 longer naps 1 in the day 1 at night. But only when held or co sleep with me at night. I always felt it's not normal for newborn to not sleep so much but hv don't seem concerned
