I did for about 6 months when I went back to work after maternity leave nearly 4 years ago now. I needed the extra money but then realised physically and mentally I couldn’t do it anymore. So I dropped down to 4 days. But I still sent my little boy for the whole 5. I work at his nursery so received a discount otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to afford it. I just needed one day to do my household chores and catch up on admin x
You should definitely look into what you’re entitled to. As I know UC can pay for up to 85% of childcare costs. And children from 9 months old now get 15 hours free childcare regardless of if you’re receiving any benefits.
Is ok. Is all part of life. Mine started since 6months. He is 2years 8months now and doing great
I work full time but my family helps. He’ll be going nursery full time when he’s 2 years old not earlier
8am-6pm is a very long
Ladies, while we're here 😫 Is it sensible to change her nursery closer to my workplace so we travel together? The job is actually 10 to 4, BUT, I live about 1hr 45mins from the workplace, which is why she will be in nursery all day. Will it be more reasonable to change her nursery? which will mean we're getting on the trains together to and fro 😫 Uh, there's so much to think about head is hot, I feel o should just let this go
I would get a nursery close to home. If you are off you don’t have to travel and it’s more convenient I would say to drop off so they can have breakfast and play etc than travel with them transport can be a nightmare. Also gives you some downtime/quiet before work
@Monique makes sense. Thank you
8-6 is a long day, I hear you. My little one goes 5 days. But I do 8.30/9 to 4.30/5. You can apply for flexible working as it’s a day one right to work hours that suit you though still doing your full time hours. You can also request to work from home to help with nursery drop offs and pick ups. That helped me a lot.
I'm currently looking for jobs full time, but my little girl goes to nursery 2 days a week. How will workout when I start working full time- should I inform the nursery to get full time for my little one
My boy does same 7:30-5:30 to nursery or 8-6/5:30pm with child minder. He started 5days at 13months. I work full time so I don’t have a choice as a single parent. I gradually eased him into it with few hrs with childminder 2/ 3x weekly , 3 months before I finished maternity leave, after he turned 9months So, he’s used to the routine now and just need more cuddles when I pick him up & my full attention weekends. Otherwise, he’s okay. Thank God!
I think you have to do what’s right for you. There’s no right or wrong answer to this one, I personally couldn’t work full time with young children. I did use to work 5 days a week when I just had one but 9-4 so till time to get ready in the morning without rushing and home at a decent time. How about 4 days as it gives you a day off to get stuff done and weekends with you LO? It would be worth doing the entitled to calculators to see if you could work 3/4 days a week and top up with UC x
