Kids play area outside

We got some land next to our house because we want to put a fence and redo the grass to have some space for kids to play outside as we basically don’t have any backyard. The grass here in US get sprayed with so many chemicals and I believe if one wants a decent grass and doesn’t want to pick out the weeds by hand those chemicals are necessary. Are there any other solutions for playground area/grassy area that we do not risk exposing little kids to toxic chemicals?

Sucks!! Is organic fertilizer an option?

@Sarah idk I should look into it. We have a company that takes care of our grass so I don’t know if there are any using organic stuff

We just let weeds grow in our grass, it's better for the soil, the grass root network, and the environment. We just let it grow and mow as soon as we need to. I know this isn't really the answer you were looking for, but the weeds stay very contained by mowing.
