NHS mat leave

I work for the NHS in Edinburgh and the last 3 months of mat leave are unpaid. My occupation pay has ended and I’m now starting just smp for the next 3 months therefore I applied for universal credit to help with rent etc. July August September will be unpaid from work/smp so my income will be 0 and I understand it’s my choice to take the last 3 months and I can go back early when my baby is 9 months but I really don’t want to miss these valuable milestones. It’s unrealisic to live off my partners income alone for those 3 months so if I decide to continue my mat leave to the full year will universal credit help me still or will I be advised to go back to work early ?

I just hey stay may pay and we applied for uc and we got it and my partner earns a decent wage. It’s definitely worth applying and chances are you’ll be entitled to something. Apply just now as they only close your claim if you have 6 months of £0 entitlement and it’s takes 5 weeks for the first payment to come through x

Meant to say I’m just on stat mat pay

You can definitely apply, we had too much money in savings to qualify but I have seen other people get it while they’re unpaid on mat leave! You have to do it as a joint claim and it takes into account your partners salary, income from other sources, savings and money currently in your bank accounts.

I’m nhs and I averaged my whole years mat pay out. So got around the same every month. Still probably wouldn’t have been entitled to UC as my partner works. I had a crap wage but it was consistently crap so I knew where I was. Xxx
