Don’t stress. That’s early to be counting. Just teach through play and everyday life. Describe everything like “see the green tree” or blue sky or yellow duck. What does a duck say? Etc Count toys when taking them out or putting them away like let’s count the balls or the blocks or let them “help” in the kitchen or with other chores and count whatever you’re working with. And just read books and point out things in the pictures and ask them where something is. “Can you find the butterfly, the sun, the wagon, the flowers” whatever is on the page. And not all kids are going to be interested in learning counting and colors and books and such. My 19mo is more interested in imaginative/pretend play and has never really cared for books besides a select few. She knows animals and sounds but not colors and definitely isn’t counting. My oldest loves books so she started talking early and learned her colors, animals, shapes, etc early because we read books all the time
Just play and talk about what’s going on
@Jessica thanks so much! I have to do that more and be way more descriptive. He like pretend play more right now like playing with cars and pretending his blocks are cars and helping in the kitchen.
I mean at this point just keep reinforcing. I feel the same way... I describe and describe and describe yo my daughter and she just says words when she wants to. I haven't even taight her much numbers or abc's I was focusing on FUNCTIONAL language.. then the daycare told me to reinforme her numbers, abcs and colors.. plop!
There is no way a one and a half year old needs to know ABCs. (By the time they enter kindergarten, yes).
