Solo travelling with toddler

Is anyone a single mum who travels solo with their toddler. I have a 21month old, I used to travel up to 6 times a year previously and every month I waste not going away it really annoys me lmfao. I’ve been part time since sept until Aug and keep wanting to use thurs to Sunday travelling but I haven’t plucked up the courage to go alone with my son. One, what if something happens to me and no one there for him, what if he gets sick and it’s just me (he seems to bloody keep getting sick every other week and runs a 40temp) and how do you lug a suitcase and toddler/pram? Any advice?

I’m not single parent but I traveled alone with my toddler And I would say it’s wasn’t as hard as I thought people are so helpful when they see you alone with the baby Perhaps make sure to go to like four and five start hotel so if anything the staff are always helpful too

I haven’t done it completely alone before but it was close as I once travelled with a close friend who was zero help going. My biggest tip is get a foldable aircraft approved stroller. I cannot tell you how many times my toddler has fallen asleep after landing.

Maybe start with a trip away from home but still in the U.K. so you get a taste for it?

@Katie this is a good point, although no where I want to go 😂 il have to have a think. I was thinking Brussels, as could get Eurostar. (We’ve done Amsterdam and Paris) it’s just so meh having to do this stuff alone

@Louma I did think to myself that I bet it would turn out easier than thought. I think my main worry is he just seems such a damn sick child and I panic. Literally today he had a good day, coming home from my brothers he vomited and had a temp out of no where. He’s only just recovered last week from a cold/temp. And I was looking at flights for weds to Sunday and now I’m defo put off 😩

Hi Chloe, my son is 6 months we’ve travelled twice, I have pully in left hand and push buggy with right hand

@Chloe make sure to get insurance just incase Checked in luggage stay as light as possible at the airport Quick transfer for airport to hotel Try to keep him awake and until flight time Does he go to nursery ? Or mix with other kids slot ? Seems like at this age they all get sick a lot

@Louma yeah he goes nursery since September and it has fully been a nightmare with the sickness. I definitely preempted it but feel he is just constantly sick more than the other children. And always to the point where I’m wondering if a trip to a n e is needed 😩.

@Martina you travel alone? Where did you go too?

We have just bought a cabin case backpack to free up hands whilst travelling with our 18 month old

@Chloe aw I can imagine! Hopefully wherever you decide to go you’ll have an amazing time ☺️

I would look at Airbnb’s so you can search for ones with children’s stuff there (bare minimum travel cot and high chair). We stayed at a great one last summer that was a home away from home and had every toy possible so that meant much less packing! Start small and local (maybe just do uk trip for 1st time) and figure out what worked before you level up! First few times of going away we had lots of curveballs! I’ve found having a huge backpacking style backpack is best option as I then have both hands free. If your toddler is a runaway, get reins as last thing you need is them darting off in a busy airport or station. - I can see you’re in London so I’m going to DM you a link to a WhatsApp group travelling for children. It’s really so helpful and if you are thinking of going to a specific place you can ask or if you just want general inspiration people will be happy to recommend x

@Charlotte thank you, much appreciated 😊
