How often should the health visitor be round?

I saw her in the first week of my baby being born and that’s it? Should she be contacting me or something to weigh baby?

Twice I thought First week and wwwk 6

You should have seen them around 6-8 weeks. Ours was at a children's centre but it might differ around the country. I think then you don't see them until something like 9m or a year

At around 10 days and then 6 weeks. Again around 9-12 months for the 1 year check and around 20-24 months for the 2 year check. You are responsible for having your child weighed, if you choose to. This can be done at local family hub/ children’s centre clinics

I saw mine at 10 days after then about 6 weeks, I also have another appointment next month when my baby will be about 14 weeks xx

We was also told we can visit our local children's centre where we can self weigh her xx

Twice until 1 year and you can ring the line in your red book to ask to be booked for weigh check at the centre

Week 6-8 you tend to take baby to family hub. After that they advise you to take back once a month to be weighed. You don’t get another appointment till around the year mark. Unless you contact them.

I was about to answer this and then I was like hang on a minute? I’m from Australia and we have more frequent checks that go by a baby book that gets filled out with all their details/you take to appointments etc. do you guys have similar?

@Sharnee we have a similar book (the red book) and this documents all appointments, checks, vaccines, etc. Weighing baby regularly is a little different though as it’s not mandatory. It’s a parent’s choice. Local children’s centres and family hubs have weekly clinics with health visitors available to weigh baby (and document in the red book) and discuss baby’s progress. It’s recommended that baby is weighed monthly

Thank you everyone! I was thinking today I haven’t heard from them in awhile but it seems I won’t until he’s older. She did say about weighing them but I wasn’t sure if they were coming back to do this. The first 4 weeks is a blur as I had preeclampsia, sepsis, c section and baby was underweight so I was seen by so many people all giving advice etc, I couldn’t take it all in. Thanks everyone!

Day 10, 6-8 weeks then 8-10 month check I believe. Many areas do a weigh in clinic at a community hospital or centre xx

What is a health visitor ? I’ve had 5 kids and I never heard of a health visitor ?

@Cali are you in the uk? They just offer support for mum and baby.

@Siobhan no

@Cali probably why you haven’t heard of them then

I had mine turn up on day 10, and never heard from them again 🙂🙂🙂 only when I chased it at 4 months because I wanted to know how much my little girl weighed they called me to go for an appointment x

@Donna Woods ahh okay! Thank you for the info. Always curious how things differ in other places. In our green book it has their birth info, app, vaccines, checklists for milestones, pages for any concerns you might have as well as height, weight and head circumference. We have app with a maternal child health nurse at 2 days, 1w, 2w, 4w, 6w (usually this one is with a doctor), 8w, 12w, 4m, 8m 12m.
