Green Poop!

My five week old baby is breastfed. I’ve just noticed her poop is a different colour to usual. Is normally very yellow, now it’s a dark green kind of colour. Does anyone know why and if I need to be concerned?

My little ones dark green and it’s because they suspect dairy allergy xx

@hannah do you bottle feed? I thought the colour was normal?

I breastfeed and I’ve been told it should be yellow. Any green colour is indicating a problem, but I’m not sure what!

Dark green is absolutely fine, usually happens to us too and we were told green is fine with BF babies as depends on what you've eaten. We went to A+E when our baby's poop went black again but after all the checks and weigh ins they said that was also fine! As long as there isn't any other concerns, I'm sure you can relax :) x

I had this once with my LO. It usually happens to BF babies when they are getting too much foremilk and not enough of the fatty milk, it's nothing to worry about x

The foremilk has more lactose in it so both Hannahs are right. However, our health visitor said the concept of foremilk and hindmilk coming one before the other is a little outdated and it's now thought that breastmilk is constantly going between the two within a feed. We are using colief for lactose intolerance (which is something I have too) and believe it's been helpful to our LO's digestion
