Fit to Fly Letter?

Hey gals, Has anyone flew past 28 weeks pregnant and needed a fit to fly letter (Ryan air)? I’ll be 31 weeks when we go on holiday - I booked it ages ago and didn’t release I needed one- so now I only have less than 2 weeks to get this sorted. I’m happy to pay for it if needed I just NEED to find a way to go on this holiday. Any advice welcomed.

I was 32 weeks pregnant this past weekend and flew with Ryanair. I got a fit to fly letter from my midwife (I heard you can also get it from the GP). No one asked me for it tho!! Leaving the UK I told the attendant and boarding so she looked but would not have asked if I didn't hand her the letter with my passport. Returning again I was not asked and this time I didn't bother flagging or showing it.

I flew end June and was due beginning August with easyJet and didn’t need one but got it just incase

Hey - I flew a few times and needed one everytime. My midwife always did it for free. They just had a template they would sign and give to you. I could even call and they’d leave it at reception x

I flew at 34 weeks with TUI and Norwegian and neither asked for it but I had one just in case. It was simple enough to get, just asked my community midwife during one of our appointments and went back to pick up the letter a couple days before travelling.

@Anna thanks for this- Ryan air have a specific (very basic) form you have to print & carry with you- did you do ryan air? I’m going to ask the GP first then midwife

I flew Ryanair - no one asked. But I had the midwife form which I just assumed would be fine as it’s basically fine and says fit to fly + how many weeks etc. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I took my notes too.

@Sadaf I was wondering this! Also how can they prove you are over 28 weeks? Of course I’ll do my absolute best to get one, but I’m just a bit worried because I’ve left it so late. Was this the case for you there & back?

@Sophie agreed, I flew at 27 weeks too and just wore a loose travel shirt and no one batted an eye .... so that could be a good back up plan And yes no one asked me in both directions :) and it was Ryanair to Mallorca this past weekend so I don't think you'll face issues

@Sophie Im sure if you just ask the midwives receptionist they’ll just do it with no bother.

I flew right after 28 weeks and had the letter but no one asked

@Victoria thanks was this Ryan Air?

I flew for a non-emergency visit at 34 weeks and returned at 36 weeks and gave birth at 38 weeks. I was given a fit to fly certificate no problem despite spending a lot of time in and out of hospital with regular moderate bleeds.

Nobody in the airport asked to see it though and I was clearly heavily pregnant. They would take me to the front of queues and helped seating me etc but didn’t ask to see the certificate.

@Lydia thank you, very useful info.

I did the same last pregnancy! Didn't get one and wasn't asked! But get it just incase! Flying at 28 weeks this time and have an appointment booked with midwives a few days before. Tbf I just wore an oversized t shirt the first time and no one even noticed x
