I had it and protocol was for baby and myself to be on antibiotic for at least 24 hours. Our hospital stay was slightly delayed as I had complications not related to the strep. They will probably take baby to special care ward in order to insert a canular and don’t panic. My midwife’s told he me he would be gone 15 minutes but he was gone for about an hour and I freaked out. When they brought him back they said they had a little difficulty getting the canular in but everything was fine. Baby was completly okay, health and perfect. I’m sure you’ve been told that as soon as waters break to go in. Read up about back waters and if you feel like there is a slow leak go in straight away they can do a small test to check and if your clear will send you home. I waited alarmist 2 days after my backwaters broke because no one had told me about this or explained any of it x
@Shannon thank you :) I've not heard that about baby being taken away. Did they allow you lots of time with baby after birth before they did this? Any reason why they can't insert cannulae on delivery ward do you know?
@Jerry it may be different for each hospital but at the one I gave birth in I think it’s just policy, I’m assuming it’s due to stock and to space and maybe just so mums don’t get distressed if they hear their baby cry? I’m not all that sure. As far as I remember yes we were given a good bit of time with baby before he was taken, he was also taken to the special care ward for each dose of antibiotic given but as the canular was already in he was only gone for 15/30 minutes each time. I sort of preferred it aswell because I was so drained from the birth having those small moments knowing my baby was in good hands and I could just breath was a bit releasing xxx
@Shannon thank you xxx
I was kept in the hospital for 48 hours in which my baby was fine. However he developed a nasty skin reaction to step b later on when he was 2 weeks old and we had to go to a&e. We were in the hospital for a total of 4 days.
