Gripe Water

Hello 🩷 when is best to give gripe water? Before, during or after feed. My little girl is struggling with trapped wind and is 11 weeks old. It is now waking her at night. I tried infacol but seems to make her be sick 🤢 any advice for trapped wind and tummy discomfort. I’m hoping gripe water is her saviour.

Gripe water was useless for me, try coleif, the package says you put 4 drops into a bottle, or a spoonful of breastmilk before feeding baby. It worked WONDERS for us, albeit it’s a bit spenny

@Sofia thank you Sofia !! If no good I will buy this ❣️

Try Coleif. It works different to infacol, it breaks down the lactose in the milk a bit so it's not as hard to digest. It was the best thing we did for our little girl. Then when she was bigger and her digestive system more developed, we weaned her off it it. Check with your HV but ours recommended it and it was great

There's no scientific proof gripe water does anything

Try fennel water worked wonders x

Gripe water was such a game changer for us, we used it in between feeds x

@Robyn ah really 😔 hearing real good things with colief I’ll try hun. Thank you xx

@Liv how long after a feed would you do it xx

@Erin around 10/15 minutes xx

Gripe water helped us (as did going lactose free). I don’t think it matters when you give it. It builds up in their system. I just put it in the bottle. If infacol made her sick she may have acid reflux? Infracol is quite acidic, due to the orange flavour which is citric acid so tends to upset babies with reflux. If she has tummy pains might be something to consider?

My 9 week old is on both take them before feed

@Hollie I agree, the infacol did not agree with her at all 😳 just made everything worse 😪Using the gripe water today has just taken her straight back to herself🥰🥹 Ahh! never thought of putting in her bottle! Great idea, I’ll do that in her night feed. Thank you 🩷

@Courtney this is great!! Thank you 🩷🩷

@Erin you welcome

Tip for gripe water- administer slowly into the babies cheek. When it hits their mouth it becomes very thick and they often get choked on it. Can be scary! My son did this with gripe water. I had to blow in his face and pat his back until he worked it out. Not as bad with the cheek method.

@Amy i second this

I gave gripe water after feeding but not routinely - only if there was distress/discomfort. It always worked well, and quickly too.

@Bianca yeah thank you for this I gave it to her just before bed and she was choking! I was like I can’t be having this scared the life out of me. Will do it your way and slower !!

@Rosa that’s reassuring as I don’t want it to be a routinely thing only when I see she has a sore tummy

@Erin you’re welcome! It was so scary but apparently common with that product! Hope it helps and hope the cheek method works! My baby spits up a lot anytime he gets hiccups so I use it only when I have to!

Gripe water can cause ongoing constipation issues so use separingly

Gripe water is our bestie I do 5ml before feeds xx

Probiotic drops by biogaia might help

Gripe water on dummy supposed to be good

@Nakita ok thank you for this ! Will only use when necessary ❤️

@Kady🦋 I tried it before her feed 🙏🏼❤️ seems to of worked good, so thank you 😊
