@Lucy which brand of formula do you use? Shocking that the one on offer was of poorer quality in Costco
it’s not allowed to be on sale. My mum works in tesco and get staff discount but it doesn’t even allow staff discount on baby formula
They're not allowed to discount formula by law. It's also not allowed to included in points deals like Tesco's clubcard etc. It's massively regulated in the UK (Thankfully because they literally add all sorts to it in other countries, mum's in china have found actual bits of plastic in theirs). It's to not discourage breastfeeding because it's not a like for like substitute because it's not possible. Part of the same UK legislation is the stipulation that EVERY formula, regardless of price, brand, packaging etc MUST be nutritionally equivalent to the other. If it's not, they can't sell it, it's breaking the law. The only differences are the ones that are for CMPA or Lactose intolerant babies. It's why Iceland caused such a stir earlier in the year when it said it was going to include it for sale on vouchers or something. It hit front page news and breaking news everywhere. The one in Costco might have seemed different, but. Nutritionally it would have been identical.
It's also the reason stage 2 and toddler milk exists. For the companies to be able to advertise a product and make more money. They're not required of nutritionally any different. Those stages are ALL about the money.
@Bethan I'm aware that they can't do that but just saying it would be helpful to many if they could.
@Kate staff discount works on follow on milks just not first infant from what I'm aware
so are first infant and then the next stage so 6-12 months the EXACT same?
@Kate basically yes
We’ve used aptamil since birth, noticed some issues with the bulk buys from costco (reflux, constipation, general discomfort etc), changed over to normal shop bought aptamil and the issues disappeared almost instantly. So strange!
Formula is really heavily regulated and it can’t ever be advertised so I’m not surprised to be honest. It would be nice to be on offer but I’ve found that formula on offer (costco etc) was of a poorer quality than normal shop bought, so I don’t mind paying the premium to ensure that my baby’s tummy isn’t impacted from older/cheaper formula!
