Medical management advice

Hi, I recently found out I had a missed miscarriage on the day of my 12 week scan (should have been 12+4). It turns out I had miscarried weeks ago, despite having an internal scan at 10 weeks where we were told we were actually having twins. It has been a very emotional and painful few weeks to go from having one baby, to two and then to none. I’m going in next week for medical management because my body hasn’t processed the miscarriage naturally. Can I ask for people’s advice (if based in the UK) as to whether it’s best to go through this at home or in the hospital? I’m really in two minds. I’d rather be in the comfort of my own home, but wondered if the process is sometimes quicker at hospital? I wondered whether in the hospital they can also confirm when things are ‘over’ as opposed to guessing at home. I also like the idea of the pregnancy tissue being taking for medical research to help people going through similar in the future. Any advice or experiences would be really helpful. Thank you

I live in the us and here you can ask for the Natera test called Anora to get some answers yourself. But with this option I wouldn’t try to collect at home.

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks it wasn’t a missed miscarriage but it was bad I was traumatised for weeks. If I had the choice I would go for a D&C at the hospital at least it’s less painful and traumatic.

Hi lovely, really sorry for your loss and that you have to go through this… I literally just had my medically managed missed miscarriage done yesterday in hospital (I was 13 weeks when he stopped developing) and I 100% recommend you doing it in hospital, if you want more details about my experience I’m happy to share but definitely the right place to be was hospital as I needed extra care that couldn’t have been delivered home. Message if you need more information to make your decision as I know is a very painful and difficult one but you need to think on yourself and your health 🫶🏻 winding loads of love

I’ve had 2 missed miscarriage, 1 I had done at hospital and 1 I done at home, I’d personally pick the hospital again the pain at home was so bad I wasn’t actually sure if I’d cope with the pain no matter how much pain relief I was taking it wasn’t working, I’m so sorry for you loss and hope you recover quickly xx
