@Melissa this is what I have read online, yet still I’m concerned about it. Speaking to the nurse about my concerns wasn’t much help either and I felt she was quite dismissive, basically just saying “it’s really nothing to worry about”

I had it when I was a teen. I tested negative 1 year later. If you had the vaccine you're less likely to develop Cervical cancer but you can still get genital warts depending on what strain you have. I agree with the nurse, it's no big deal.
HPV lays dormant in the body for years and is usually triggered by sexual activity.
Pretty much everyone who has been sexually active has it at some point! Most people test negative because the body typically gets rid of it on its own. I’m immunocompromised so mine doesn’t fight it, I’ve been positive for several years. Each smear test it’s either nothing bad found so come back in a year or bad cells found so need a colposcopy. I’ve had 3 colposcopies. Most likely you’ll go back next time and be negative. If not they’ll just keep monitoring from there
HPV can be dormant for a very very long time. I knew someone that freaked out because they had a negative one and then a few years later a positive one and had no intercourse in that time. HPV was just dormant
Men cannot be tests first off. So he cannot be tested for it, but I think my understanding is that it can lie dormant in your body if I'm not thinking of something else.?
