Gynae referral

I have been waiting since November for a referral back to gynae to investigate if I have endometriosis. I'm really struggling to cope with the symptoms I get every month. I've contacted my GP again and there is nothing they can do to speed along my referral. I'm also concerned that even once I'm seen by gynae I might then be put on a waiting list for a laparoscopy? What's people's experience of how long they have to wait? And will they suggest a laparoscopy straight away or do other investigations first such as an MRI? They know I have a cyst on one of my ovaries that hasn't disappeared so not sure if that's an endometrioma or just a regular cyst. I just feel like the NHS needs to do so much more to prioritise women's health. We shouldn't have to suffer like this for so long 😭

I had surgery last July and that was a 18month wait from when the consultant put me on the waiting list for surgery. From GP referral first being seen was 5 months. So almost 2years in total. It all depends on your hospital but gynae appts and waiting lists across the country are amongst the worst so you may need to prepare.yourself for that wait unfortunately x

Thanks I'm seriously considering going privately and paying for an MRI whilst waiting but not sure how accurate that would be diagnosing endometriosis?

A lot of people in my area have and are paying for private. I wouldn't say scans are accurate in diagnosing endometriosis. Unfortunately, they only way they would absolutely be sure is via surgery. Some people have been lucky to have had it identified via scans but never necessarily the severity. But for a lot of people, it doesn't get picked up on, in scans x

I had an MRI in another country and many ultrasounds in here and they couldn’t tell what was wrong but gynaecologist suggested laparoscopy and I’ve had mine less than two weeks ago and it was endometriosis. So I don’t know if MRI will show or not.

An MRI only shows it if its deep endometriosis so they usually only do the scan after a laparoscopy to diagnose.
