Extra growth scans

Hello! Is anyone undergoing extra growth scans for a small measuring baby? I'm 28 weeks today. Went in for reduced movement a couple weeks back (all fine now, baby had just changed into a funky position!) and they ended up doing a growth scan to be safe. Found out our little one is measuring small so I'm going in for regular growth and doppler scans. Baby is super active in general and kicking hard most days! I keep being told I'm supposed to feel reassured and glad that I get to see baby more often, but I've been beside myself with anxiety and worry and feel like I'm mentally preparing myself to have an induction. Anyone else going through anything similar?

Honestly it’s so so common to have extra growth scans!! The midwives can be way off with their bump measurements it’s not very accurate xx

Yes exact same thing happened to me. Went for reduced movement and now got to have weekly scans because measuring too big (and they think I may have gestational diabetes too). They wouldn’t have known at all if I didn’t go in for reduced movement because I’m not high risk for GD. However, take it with a pinch of salt because they are usually not very accurate with measurements! I know so many people that have been told baby is massive/tiny and just ended up being average 6-8lb!

I think growth scans are important for being able to plot your specific baby against its own growth chart, but the measurements can be very inaccurate, for example in my last pregnancy I was told baby was 7lb9 already at my 36week scan and to prepare for a big baby but he popped out at 37+5 at 7lb4 so they got it very wrong! Also try not to worry yourself about induction and birth too soon, you have some time to go and can cross that bridge when and if it happens, try focus on something else if you can xx

@Emily it's so crazy isn't it , like to think if we wouldn't have gone in in the first place none of this would be happening. but then I guess it's good it's been flagged... And good to know about the sometimes inaccurate measurements. I always take what they say so literally but I guess at the end of the day it's always just gonna be an estimation isn't it xx

Thank you @Sarah good to know about your experience with the measurements, yeah I have such a tendency to catastrophise it's not ideal for pregnancy haha!! Xx

During my last pregnancy at my 34 week scan they told me my son was measuring small overall and especially on femur length, was placed on the 3rd centile for femurs and 9th centile overall with an estimated birth weight of 5lb8, I had a growth scan at 37 weeks and basically no significant growth so I was induced at 39 weeks in hospital for 5 days and after many failed inductions ended up having an emergency c section, my son was born on his due date weighing 7lbs 1 and absolutely nothing wrong with him, he’ll be 1 next week and is measuring on the 73rd centile for his height so they were definitely wrong about that too! They of course are not always wrong but scans can have a margin of error upto 15% which they always seem to forget to mention, I know it’s easier said than done but try not to let it ruin your pregnancy, I feel like the last few weeks of mine were, you’ve got a while until thinking about inductions and birth, hopefully things will change before planning x

I honestly would try to not read into it too much! I was measuring bang on for my first pregnancy and then had a 9.5lb baby! x
