@Manon their response to the petition is what made me want to share it! it’s disgusting that they think families can survive off SMP & paternity! How is it in anyway a measure of financial security? If anything, it’s an insult and it probably wouldn’t be much worse than not getting a penny at all! I’m lucky to get enhanced pay working for the NHS, but even that isn’t great, and I’ve had to save up thousands before finishing for mat leave to be able to make sure we survive while I’m off 🫠
And then we have to think of childcare which is very expensive and we have (more often women) to stop working full time as it is not viable financially 🤦♀️ Hoping things will change one day …
Just gone back to work and honestly it feels like we are constantly punished for having children? Whether it be an insufficient amount of maternity pay…inflexible working arrangements…the list goes on. There is little to no support for parents raising the next generation. We are simply forgotten and expected to get on with it/struggle financially, physically and mentally. Ridiculous!!
@Manon exactly! I’m having to go from working 5 days a week full time, to 3 days a week part time, just so we can afford childcare 😩
@Sophie this!!! it honestly feels like they make it so difficult for working parents! 🫠
Just read the government’s reply to this petition and it is shocking “Parental pay entitlements are intended to provide a measure of financial security to parents to care for their child(ren). However, they are not intended to replace earnings.” If they are not intended to replace earnings what is ??? Women are getting penalised for having children always have always be … but then if they stop they will be asked to have kids because otherwise the population will get older and no one to replace the aging population !!! And also while we are working full time we pay tax which should be to help when we are not working ! It is ridiculous !
