Low lying placenta

I just had my 20 weeks scan a couple of days ago and the sonographer said my placenta is lower than they would like to. So I’m having another scan at 34 weeks. Anyone in a similar situation?

Oh bless you, will it move did they say at all within the next 20 weeks? Xx

@Emma they say there is a good chance it’ll move upward as I approach the third trimester.

I have the exact same thing, apparently it’s extremely common and usually most likely moves x

@Jessica oh that’s really good! Do you know what you are having? :)

Yes , I’m 21 weeks . 1,4

Same situation right now hopefully it moves x

Definitely common, i had this with my first son, i was having regular growth scans anyway and by the time I was 26 weeks my placenta was posterior x

@Emma yes, it’s a boy 🥰

You can live your usual life but do not train (HIIT, With weights ), you can walking , cycling, pool , yoga , with your own weigt , dancing. No flights , my scan should be at 32 weeks . Perhaps, no sex until the scan . But it depends on the situation . If to be honest , I’m having low mood because of this . But if have a low mood , you can try mental health line ( I haven’t tried )

@Francesca did toy have it with the first baby ?

Anyone knows about yoga classes for pregnant?

@Valeri I asked what the low lying placenta implied and the sonographer just said “C-section if it does not moves”. I haven’t talked to the midwife to understand if I have to do any changes in my regular routine yet.

It depends on the results. It could be 1,8-2 1-1,8 Lower than 1 In the first case , you do as you do I have the middle option (mine is 1,4) you should follow recommendations. Also , I’m a professional dancer ( acrobatic ), maybe , why they told me this . If the third option (1 and less ) - they have to hospitalise and /or the pregnant lady must do nothing

Perhaps, they gave you a leaflet . But it isn’t informative about what to do

Yes, I'm the same - I think they said it was 15.7mm away but they'd want it to be 20mm. I spoke to the consultant and I definitely wasn't given the impression that it was anything to worry about just yet. 😊 It seems very likely to improve, apparently 1/20 women present at 20 weeks with a low-lying placenta but by 32 weeks it's more like 1/200.

@Anna Yes , they told me the same . 90% of cases is changing. But in the same time , I was recommended to not train hard . No flights- if the bleeding will be , nobody helps me on the plain And no weights , jumps etc . I haven’t had a future experience yet . I don’t insist you to do the same , also , I have just recieved this information ( a couple of days ago) And I’m mulling over it ) Also , you have a bit better situation than me .

Snap! Had my scan yesterday and they said the same thing. Booked in at 34 for another scan. She said overall not to worry as the uterus still has some growing to do and as it’s attached to the uterine wall it should hopefully travel higher as you grow! But she did mention that if it hasn’t then we’re likely to be recommended for a c-section (praying not as I would really love our home birth!) xx

@Valeri isn’t placenta praevia when the placenta is covering the cervix? My midwife said it’s nothing to worry about this early on if it’s just low as it’s likely to move up, just that it’s maybe a different conversation if by 36 weeks it hasn’t xx

@Ellie please , look at the first page of the leaflet. It seems the same

@Ellie do you train in the gym like running, hiit or similar ? :) have you tried to carry any things more than 3 kg ? I hope the results will be good . I’m curious about the lifestyle that you could afford. It would be a good example. Also , if you can provide you info ( numbers ) , it would be more informative / helpful for me .

To be fair I found very conflicting references to low-lying placenta versus placenta praevia even within the same document. 🫠 I think the main takeaway is we're probably going to be just fine! I did ask about what to avoid and the consultant said if it's just low-lying and not covering, it's a bit more of a grey area and up to what you feel comfortable with. But yes if you want to be extra safe, no strenuous activity or penetrative sex. She also said to get attention if there is any bleeding at all - so that's my baseline for when I need to be concerned.

It’s very common to have a low lying placenta, most move before 32 weeks the risk is bleeding in pregnancy, my last pregnancy I had low lying placenta moved at 28 weeks did delivery baby naturally a week later as I was bleeding and my body just give up as I was bleeding really heavy at the end

I didn't have it with my 1st but wasn't sure if it was because I became pregnant quite quickly after as I'm due a couple of days after my first babies 1st birthday. Also I fly on Tuesday they said should be okay and they want to scan me at 28 weeks as the consultant seemed abit worried as its fully covering the cervix x

Yes, I’m 22 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. Low lying placenta. I’ll be having a C section anyway as I had it with my first. Next scan booked for 35 weeks. Midwife and drs had zero concerns and said to carry on as normal. I also asked about flying as I’m due to go on holiday at 30 weeks & that’s all been approved by the drs and midwife. They did say if it was fully covering (placenta previa) I wouldn’t be able to fly. There is a different between low lying & fully covering.

@Jade I’m in the same boat, low lying at 20 week scan and due to fly at 30 weeks. I’ve booked a private for 26 weeks to maybe confirm what I’m going to do as my midwife has said she can give me a letter but cannot certify the safety of my travel!

@Nicola yes I’ll be doing exactly the same! I think I’ll be having a scan a week before we fly just to confirm it’s not gone further down… praying it’s moved up!! Let me know your update when you have the scan 🙌 My midwife & dr have zero concerns but I just feel nervous!! Xx

I had this in my first pregnancy and it did move out the way. Try not to stress too much, it's very common for it to move high enough before birth.

@Jade thank you , I’m having just low lying. I don’t really worry about flights now . I’m thinking about sport and similar stuff 😏 But it is also good to hear about positive feedback

@Bea I read many stories here It’s worked and helped:))))
