Wrong gender… twice! 🫣

Has anyone else experienced this?! We booked a private scan at 17 weeks to find out our gender, a little boy! Our NHS scan at 21+4 weeks.. congrats on your little girl! Back to private, we still think boy 🫣🤣 eeek! I’m a prepared / organised queen so this is driving me insane!

Could you do a sneak peek blood test? Cost will be that same as going back and forth to the private scan clinic! We didn't find out the gender until birth and didn't feel any less prepared or organised if that helps 😁 best surprise after a difficult pregnancy and birth! She had everything she needed without it being all pink so we can use alot for subsequent babies haha 😄

Oh my god that's insane 😵‍💫 I'd be pulling my hair out! You'd like to think that you would be able to trust the NHS sonographers the most wouldn't you. Have you asked the hospital if they will rescan you? Not sure if they would but its worth an ask!

That’s your sign to wait til birth 🤣 we did with my first baby and it was a magical experience (you can still be organised)

Do you have any scan photos?

@Katie our private scan company have now said we can go tomorrow for another look! And I have some extra NHS scans booked due to a small sized baby so I’m thinking I may give in and wait until the day!!! Both private and NHS showed me very plausible arguments for both which confused us more 😂🫣

@Ellie I nearly quit on Wednesday after the phone call the second time to private! 😂 had a right hormonal paddy ahahaha! I agree!

For a girl they'll have a pelvic bone that's like a triangle. It also looks like a burger with 3 dots (urethra, vagiba and anus). Boys do not have a forms pelvic bone in that area and they tend to just have a line with no dots. If that helps if the penis isn't visible that is. All NHS scans do i look for if there is or isn't a penis

My 15 week scan said boy ( awkward position crossed legged ) 19+6( 20 week scan) said girl I’ve had 2 consultant scans too at 20 weeks and 22 weeks who say she So I’m thinking baby is a girl x

We had a similar issue in 1st pregnancy but it was the blood test which was wrong at 10 weeks. We were told girl. Supposed to be 100% reliable for girl results so we were shocked at 17 weeks to find out he was a boy. Not sure I completely believed it until he arrived! We think we got given wrong blood test results as test itself is very accurate. So I can only think it was an admin error! We skipped the blood test this time and scan has said girl twice but nervous in case our next scan says something different! It’s hard because you bond with the little you know about your child. In our case all we knew with 1st was ‘it’s a girl’ so we’d bought an entire girls wardrobe had a name picked out and we were calling her it in conversation etc. felt like we had to bond all over again with a boy! Now I wouldn’t change a hair on his head and being a boy mum had been so fun. But the confusion you’re experiencing now can be overwhelming and hard to process! Hope you get clarity soon!

Also I ought to add I think out of 2, private more likely correct. We had 2 sonographers both agree result before they’d tell us and they spent ages getting the right view. Whereas nhs scan more rushed as they are looking at so much more beyond gender. Their priority is (rightly so) looking at heart health, limbs, facial bones, brain etc. They don’t have as much time. My nhs sonographer reckons it’s only 80-90% accurate whereas private have a >99% accuracy rating. I think probably the difference is the time they have to dedicate to it. Whilst our blood test result was wrong, I think it’s still quite unusual for that to happen so in your case, I’d be tempted to do a sneak peek test for my only assurance. I know a lot of people will say just wait but that’s not always the right path for everyone. I needed to know. I didn’t want even the slightest hint of gender disappointment on the day I met my baby. I wanted to process everything and feel mentally prepared as well as physically!

Omg this is crazy!!! Can you keep us posted on what sex the baby is going to end up being? ❤️❤️

Sort of. Private scan said 100% girl. Nhs scans every time they couldn't tell and we were having weekly then fortnightly scans. So not quite the same. Turned out to be a girl. This time round we've been told boy by private... nhs scan Wednesday so we will see what they say...

Might be worth getting the NIPT.

Did they point out boy on the scan? As we could clearly see a Willy on ours 😂 x

@Sophie-Jayne so the NHS are saying the “Willy” on the private is the cord between he/she’s legs 🫣

@Emily oh no!! Both my private scans have been right. What about a 4d scan? May be able to see more? Xx

My private gender scan said boy initially, then my 20 week said girl. I went for a private gender scan the same day and they said girl too.

We went for a final private today (free of charge) and confirmed the private place did infact have it wrong and NHS were correct! Little girl pending ☺️🩷

Gosh I can’t believe that! Congratulations ❤️ Can I ask for your private did you see the baby in 4D? Xx

@Amelia yeah 4D!

@Emily oh my god! What a shock you've been through! I did think it would be really bad of the NHS to get it wrong considering they are very skilled in what they are looking at. I hope the private place were very apologetic!

I had my rescan with window to the womb and they said girl even tho originally they said boy so both nhs scan and private have said girl in definitely going to check gender at my 4D scan or growth scans x
