Advice for recurrent loss

I’m looking for advice. I had my firstborn in 2023 with no issues. Hes now almost 2. I fell pregnant in November 2024, missed miscarriage at 11 weeks in January and we were devastated. We decided to try again straight away which resulted in a chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks in March. We decided to try again in May, having 1 month break and we’re having a chemical again 😢 What was the reason for your recurrent loses and what advice to you have to help us?

Im so sorry for your losses. I had a mmc and two chemicals and then with my 🌈 I was prescribed progesterone and I believe that was key to my successful pregnancy. Ask your doctor about getting prescribed progesterone pessaries perhaps? X

@Lucy they won’t help me because I’ve had my son previously 😢

@Shannon that's a joke that they won't help you 😢

@Shannon I was advised after my second missed miscarriage in Feb that if my GP wasn’t willing to help that EPU would if I rang them when I next conceived if you’re able to do the same?

@Jess EPU are the ones saying they won’t do anything because I’ve had 1 baby and GP say it’s EPU that deal with it x

Im so sorry for your loss hun, there’s recent study’s that show your hubbys health has a huge part to play in a healthy pregnancy, like him eating right, having the right vitamins, iron levels etc exercising. Usually if you’ve carried before and you’re still able to get pregnant then your eggs are viable and your womb is prepared so it might be worth checking not just his sperm count but if the sperm is healthy too xx

@Olivia thank you, my partner changed his lifestyle etc too so not sure what’s going on. X

Sorry for your losses :( I would suggest asking your GP for a referral to the recurrent miscarriage unit (rather an EPU). NHS guidelines is to refer after 3 consecutive miscarriages. Tommy’s charity has some useful guidance on their website that you may wish to read. From testing at the recurrent miscarriage unit, I found a blood clotting disorder (APS) to be a possible cause of my losses and was prescribed blood thinners for my next pregnancy, which I’m taking now and have got to 20 weeks (furthest along that I’ve made it!). They also were able to prescribe progesterone which I used as well.

Hey @Shannon. Like you I have had 3 back to back MCs. The first was a chemical and two MMC. I have been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic however. I've found it relatively easy and quick to conceive and this lead me to a little research into something called 'hyperfertile uterus'. Basically, the uterus isn't fussy hence the reason for multiple MCs and and fast conception times. Not sure if this is any help but it could be a reason. It doesn't make things any easier though.

@Sandi just had a nosey at this and it’s definitely not my case. My cycles don’t run like the clock and are alll over the place x

@Sandi That's interesting. I find it easy to conceive too but my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage. Scared to try again.

@Shannon ohh, I really hope you get some answers and rainbow baby x

Sorry to hear about your loss. I had theee recurrent losses in a year miscarriage at 9 weeks, chemical at 5 weeks and ectopic pregnancy. No reason was provided for any all that I was told was 50% chance of abnormal chromosomal. I was advised to take high dose vitamin D, folic acid. My husband and I decided to also changed our prenatal vitamins to Procieve.

@Nesha thank you so much! I’m going to take maca root alongside my folic acid and vitamin D xx

@Shannon this shouldn’t be right… I had 2 miscarriages in 2022, fell pregnant at the end of 2022 with my daughter who is 2 soon. I have just been to the EPU as I had a slight bleed but baby is okay and so they prescribed me progesterone till I’m 16 weeks. I would maybe chase that up again!! I’m sorry for your losses 🤍

@Amber it’s because I already have a son who’s almost 2 and required no support for him x

@Shannon I have a daughter who is almost 2 too and I did not need support for her pregnancy either. But because I have had 2 miscarriages before her and now with my current pregnancy I had a scare they said they will give me it as it gives me more chance xx

@Amber ahh! They’ve not offered it for me xx

Aw hunny! I’m sure we spoke before on one of your posts was rooting for you! What have they offered you so far??❤️‍🩹

@Chloe absolutely nothing! They’ve said because I’m 25 and have 1 living child who’s under 2 they don’t see that I’d need any intervention and it’s probably bad luck. I’ve started maca root today and so has my partner xx

Are you currently taking progesterone??Xx

@Chloe no they won’t prescribe it x

That’s awful! Have you spoke to your GP? Can’t they offer any testing?☹️

@Chloe I’m going to phone them on Monday x

I’ve had 3 missed miscarriages, my son who is 2.5 between miscarriage 1 and 2. My third was sent for testing and came back as chromosomal abnormalities, basically a very bog standard miscarriage. I have done lots of bloods both privately (try medichecks) and with my GP (only allowed after my third MC) but nothing came back, often I wonder if they are worth it as often the only solution to most hormonal imbalances is good health and diet anyway! I recommend following the Cheshire acupuncturist on instagram, she shares great content on balancing hormones. After multiple miscarriages, you can start taking 75mg aspirin whilst ttc and during pregnancy, that helps blood flow if there was anything clotting wise at play. (Cont next comment)

There’s a lot of noise on progesterone, not so much data it helps without bleeding (which I never do) but mentally I wanted to try it due to so many women posting on here that was the magic pill that got them their baby! I also think anxiety and stress is a big player with me, and cortisol tanks progesterone. So mentally I like feeling that my hormones have a safety net to stress 😂 The NHS wouldn’t give it to me, I got it privately (the abbey clinic in Chester, virtual appointment and posted it to me the next day). I think we can drive ourselves mad with the what ifs and feeling like it’s in our control. Getting my chromosome abnormality result for our last miscarriage helped give me perspective that recurrent miscarriage really can just be shit luck!! And every pregnancy is a new chance. Wishing you all the luck 🍀 xxx
