Am I having a miscarriage?

So I noticed my lines are getting lighter, so I took a digital clear blue. I had 2-3 weeks on Monday and this morning it’s now saying 1-2 weeks. I’m meant to be 5 + 3. Has anyone had this happen to them and maybe be good news or realistically am I waiting for a miscarriage to start. I’m still too early for an EPU, so was going to wait it out til they would see me. Should probably say I’m still having symptoms like nausea and sore boobs.

First of all, hugs. I am sorry you are even writing this post. Being someone that has experienced pregnancy loss, this is my advice. Given that the line is getting lighter or decreasing is an indication that your HGC or pregnancy hormone is decreasing, and the pregnancy is going to miscarry once levels reach 0. I would go to the ER and demand a HGC blood test and if the pregnancy is still viable immediately ask to start progesterone.

That’s exactly what happened to me this week. My tests are now negative as of yesterday and my symptoms are gone this morning so just waiting for a bleed now. I’m so sorry xx

Sadly I’m from the UK so if I go into A&E they won’t do anything here based on how early I am. I only have had one miscarriage but my tests were all strong until I started bleeding. This pregnancy wasn’t planned but I had wrapped my head around it and got excited now I’m just heartbroken.

You don’t need to go to A&E but you can go to the EPU in any hospital and they will be able to scan/help you xxx

@Freya early pregnancy unit won’t do anything unless she was 6 weeks unfortunately x

Call 111 and when you get a call back tell them you want progesterone (based on previous miscarriage) and they will prescribe it.. grab it today!!! Don’t wait.. you need this prescribed to progress your pregnancy! Good luck!

@quiraWell some definitely will because the same thing happened to me at 5 weeks and they saw me, it was a subchorionic hematoma not a miscarriage so I’d say it’s worth a try x

@Freya i wasn’t checked over by them at 5weeks pregnant after 2 miscarriages - i was told to go to GP, all they did was test my urine & that’s it

@Flower she has to be seen first before they prescribe progesterone - and it doesn’t always work unfortunately x

@quira different EPUs probably have different rules then x

@Freya be better off contacting GP & get them to refer x

Yeah im sure my EPU is 6 weeks so ill wait it out until then. I’ve only had one miscarriage and that was a few years ago before I had my two daughters so they definitely won’t prescribe me progesterone. Was kinda hoping someone had similar and they were all ok but doesn’t sound like it. Thanks everyone

Could be multiple reasons for this, your urine could be diluted, lower hcg levels, hook effect etc, if you are bleeding bright red blood then the likely hood is what you think it may be Call epau and see what they recommend you should do, tell them you’re a little further along than you are if you absolutely need to just to be seen by them, if that fails call 111 asap or call your GP first thing Monday morning, might even be possible to book a private scan just to see whats going on inside Im sorry you’re having to go through this i hope you get the help you need, thinking of you 💜

@Danielle i read this in the sense it wasn’t meant to be, unsure if that was the way you intended it to come across but thats how i took it and its not what she needs to hear right now

Look I'm not gonna disagree with people comments here, there is a chance you are miscarrying. Clear blue give an actual figure, so it's not like you are trying to judge line darkness on tests that are too old. But I also don't see any reason to be the one person that offers a different theory and the tiniest bit of hope. Line progression can be affected by hydration levels massively. There is a chance you were quite dehydrated on Monday therefore hcg levels were concentrated, where as today you were more hydrated. I'm not sure it's much of a chance. But I feel in a post of only negative options you should have at least one positive option, no matter how slim it is, especially as you don't have much option but to wait. You still have symptoms too. Try and prepare yourself to some degree, but I wouldn't be losing all hope based on line progression. Do you have and bleeding or pain? Xx

Could be testing at different times of the day and urine could be a lot more diluted. My tests got lighter around 5 weeks. And my gestation is now 20+3 with a little boy. My digital never went down but then again I only ever did 2 but I never got my 6+. Hoping for the best for you xx

Never got my 3+ sorry^^

@Freya I’ve had 3 losses and EPU still won’t prescribe me progesterone. They don’t always do it. You often need to go through testing first, which they don’t do until you’ve had 3 back to back loses x

@Flower they won’t. I’ve had 3 losses and they don’t prescribe it until I’ve had 3+. 111 don’t deal with pregnancy they just tell you to ring EPU. I phoned at 6 weeks when I had the flu and was bleeding whilst pregnant and they said to go to EPU.

@Sally I have had no bleeding or pain. Just niggles but I think I’m imagining them because of my previous miscarriage. Just keep waiting for them. My mum told me to be more positive. So trying the theory I’m pregnant until otherwise stated. Thank you for your bit of positivity.

@Emily thank you. I’ve just never known tests to get lighter at 5 weeks. So I’ll remain positive until otherwise known. Congratulations on your pregnancy with your boy, I hope it all goes well for you. Xx

@J I turn 6 weeks midweek so I’m going to wait til then and go see what they say. I don’t mind waiting until I experience any symptoms or that. Thank you for some positivity I appreciate it.

I mean just my personal opinion, I wouldn't be worried about miscarriage based on that alone. I know it happens. But I don't have a lot of faith in line progression. In theory it makes sense, but pregnancy tests aren't meant to work in that way- that's why they advise first urine of morning, to try get the best sample. It's not like ovulation tests that are designed to get darker with more hormones no matter what time of the day or what your hydration levels are.

@Sally I agree with Sally. I’ve had 3 losses and with my first miscarriage my lines did get darker and were dye stealer. With my other 2 the lines never progressed much so there’s never a way to tell. Even bleeding doesn’t guarantee a loss. Only scans can truly tell. I agree with your mum, you’re pregnant until you can believe otherwise! Fingers crossed for you. With my successful pregnancy my tests were still so faint at 8 weeks! Hes now almost 2 🥰

I was worried when mine got lighter. It wasn’t significantly lighter but I got my dye stealer a few days later about 5w4d so that calmed me down then I had an early scan at 6w and he was perfectly fine 🥰

You guys have got to stop testing over and over and watching the lines. It's not really telling you anything

This happened when I was pregnant, my baby boy is now 7 months old and healthy and happy 😊

Hey, just thought I’d update in case anyone else experienced anything similar. I sadly have started bleeding heavily so think it’s definitely another miscarriage. My pregnancy wasn’t planned but I then got so excited so now I’m just left feeling devastated. Thank you everyone for your kind words I appreciate it.

i’m so sorry you’re going through this, my messages are open if you need an ear x

I am sorry
