As someone who has had a miscarriage pass naturally and a surgical managed miscarriage I found that I recovered far quicker with the surgery option. However with both I bled for about the same amount of time afterwards (2.5 weeks). Personally I found the surgical route much better! Way less traumatic and no pain what so ever! Though ultimately the decision is up to you and whatever you feel comfortable with ā¤ļø Please please please feel free to message me for more info though, I found it so helpful hearing other women's stories. Certainly made me feel less alone
@Francesca thank you for this. I googled and that is what it said but not from a personal/realistic perspective. I was thinking tablets as Iāve got a toddler at home but now Iām not sure. I think Iāll see what my options are tomorrow but what youāve said is really helpful x
With the tablets I found myself completely in able to look after my toddler due to the pain! With the surgical option I wasnāt in any pain and bleeding was minimal. Even with the tablets youāre required to be in hospital for a couple of hours.
@Francesca can I ask how they do the local anaesthetic? Is it an epidural? Would the surgery happen tomorrow or would they call me back in a different day? Sorry to ask lots of questions
Theyād likely book you in within a couple of days for the surgery but every hospital will differ depending on what else they have going on. Local anaesthetic they inject your cervix to reduce how much you can feel so it doesnāt stop you being able to do anything (like an epidural would) And ask as many questions as you like š
This happened to me in January. Same gestation and growth size as you too. It took me 3 weeks from that scan to pass the fetus. I had to take the pills to pass it on week 3 as it was taking too long naturally. To give you reassurance though I had absolutely no pain. And all I can say is you will know when you have passed it as itās like a big solid clump of red/pink/brown. Almost like those squidgy alien toys. Sorry for TMI but best way to describe it for you as I had no clue when to know if it passed. My pregnancy symptoms remained there until I passed it and it took 2 weeks for my test to go negative once I passed it. Iām so sorry sweetheart. Once the fetus passed I was absolutely fine physically. Mentally Iām still recovering x
@Hollie sorry I initially missed your comment, than you for sharing itās helpful to hear different experiences especially when weighing up a difficult decision like this x
@Shannon thank you for sharing, I wouldnāt know what to expect as it passes so Iām glad youāve said, if I do choose the tablets I feel more prepared on what it will involve. Hope you get their mentally soon but in your own time x
I am so sorry youāre going through this, itās honestly devastating. I had a miscarriage in January, I already have 2 children and chose the tablets, they worked successfully for me. I had family look after my 2 and my husband looked after me. Honestly Iād read a lot of horror stories but it was really no different to a heavy period for me. It happened less than 24 hours of me using the pessary. I felt after a few days rest I could start to get on with things for my childrenās sake and honestly, it helped me too. No option is easy but for me being at home helped me. X
@Jess thank you Iām hoping this might be the case for me. I would rather be at the hospital as little as possible. I guess Iāll find out a bit more at the appointment later x
I've had two MMC. I chose medical treatment as it, for me was the most natural option. It wasn't too bad, cramping and lower back pain but nothing crazy or unbearable. I had some good pain relief and I passed lots of clots and tissue after around 2 hours. Some hospitals give you an oral tablet first to kinda get things going then the vaginal tablets after which I felt worked much better and I passed what I think was the entire pregnancy in a few hours. The first time I only had the vaginal tablets but I felt I passed the tissue over a longer period. Good luck
Bit of a frustrating update I donāt know if itās the norm. We went in today and had a scan and everything was exactly what we knew it was and they confirmed this but they wonāt do any next steps until I go back for a rescan a week today š I get they have to be sure but there is not one single chance itās wrong
I think itās down to new legislation which is why they do this now. It makes it so so much harder, I honestly feel your pain. I had a scan where they told me it was more than likely a miscarriage but they couldnāt confirm until the following week. It really prolongs it which isnāt nice for anyone. Please try to take it easy and look after yourself, I know itās easier said than done at this difficult time š x
@Jess oh is it. I do understand that it could be a misdiagnosis. But not in my case Iām meant to be 10 weeks and I measured 6 for the 3rd time today (they discounted the 2 private which is fair enough). I just think why canāt I just sign consent for it..another week is just cruel. Iām hoping it will happen naturally but Iām not that hopeful tbh. Iāve taken the week off work and it feels pointless because mentally I probably need the time off but equally Iām better when Iām busy so in a lot of ways id rather be in but I canāt risk starting to bleed. Just canāt help but wish it had been a ānormal miscarriageā and it would have happened 4 weeks ago š x

Iām sorry you are going through this š«¶š» Iāve been through it a month ago in Leeds⦠I was 15 weeks but pregnancy stopped at 13 weeks, I went for a confirmation of missed miscarriage and they gave me the 3 options which I chose medical management so they gave me a pill next day and sent me home for 48 hours then back to hospital for the second round of medication (in my case I took them orally). With this option you have less risk of permanent damage like with a D&C but can be really painful with real contractions (or at least it was for me, every body is different) and was lucky my hospital team was amazing, the support and reassurance was top level and thankfully for me it worked after two rounds of second medication because I had some placenta left but, take your time to consider what option works best for you and what you feel more comfortable with. If you want to talk more feel free to message me, it really help me to talk with other people that went through it before I decided
@Veronica Vidal thank you for your reply and Iām sorry you went through that. Things have started to progress naturally which Iām glad about as they wonāt give me any medical options till Monday x
Hope youāre doing okay x

Same happened to me. Youāll go to the EPU and theyāll discuss your options after doing a scan to be sure; wait for the pregnancy to pass naturally, medicated miscarriage or the surgical option. The medication is 4 pills (at least in my situation) inserted into the vagina (done yourself). If these work youāll experience some very intense pain and pass a lot of blood. Unfortunately they didnāt work for me, which is common, so 3 days later I went in for the surgical option. I wish Iād done this straight away! I had local anaesthetic and it was all over in minutes and I could go home after an hour. If you want more info Iām happy to share!
