Health Visitor

Hi girls, I just had a phone call from a health visitor to say they now do antenatal assessment, it's not mandatory but something they offer. I don't think I want a antenatal assessment, I've helped with newborns before and know what I'm doing despite it being my first baby but I know what I'm doing you know? Has anyone refused a visit from a health visitor before giving birth? I've researched everything they go over and I've already decided what I'm doing etc.

Health visitors are a opt in service. They are not mandatory. You can let them know you don’t want this service. Hope this helps.

I didn’t refuse one but I was told that it was mandatory but the health visitor cancelled about 10 minuets before the appointment and just asked me a few questions over the phone like if I have everything ready for the baby and how I’m feeling was pointless do you ask me

Thank you, yeah I just spoke to the health visitor she said it's not mandatory in my borough I can refuse, I think I'll just do the telephone consultation with them and speak to them x

Yeah it seemed very unnecessary to me to be honest I assumed it was because I was a first time mum x

You can think you know what you’re doing as much as you like but there’s mum who’ve had 3+ kids and the next one comes and they are entirely different to what you are used to and you are then in the unknown! I would welcome all help and advice and then you can choose what to do with it as you wish.. I just think you should be a little more open minded about the situation ahead of you x

@Bella oh I know I can't be too prepared but I'll have a telephone consultation, I just think a lot of people have coped without them. X

Yeaah I had a visit Antenally. At around 30 weeks. She just popped round had a chat with us to see how we are and get to know us and then left. She just asked about my support network, whether I'd decided how I was going to feed etc. No pressure, just a friendly chat.

@Bethan Thank you! I just don't think I want anyone coming to my house, I'm going to ask for telephone instead x

@Paige Yeah I was apprehensive about that. I wasn't offered a telephone appointment. I had my partner scrubbing the stairs before she turned up. I was thinking she'd like inspect the house and everything. I'd tidied top to bottom. Really anxious. I couldn't have been more wrong 😂😂 she literally came in, walked straight to the sofa. Sat on the edge of the sofa and had a chat and left. Didn't have so much as a cup of tea.

@Bethan 😅😅 brilliant!! I'd be the same I think that's why I'm asking for a phone call! X

I have my appointment coming up.. my anxiety is running tenfold with it, she never told me it was optional and didn’t really give me a choice in saying no she just told me when she was coming & that was that 🥴
