I live with both MIL and FIL. MIL doesn't call her husband "babe," but babies and calls her son (my boyfriend) "babe" all the time. It makes me uncomfortable because it was our thing, but now it's ruined the pet name for me. I'm not sure if I'm being insecure or weird about it....
