Raising a baby away from family

We recently moved up north, away from all our family and friends (3 and a half hours away) because we just couldnt afford the rental prices down south, and then found out we’re pregnant two months later. Has anyone else had an experience raising your first baby away from everyone you know? I’m terrified!

Aww I’m in a similar position to you but the other way around. I moved from Cheshire up north 5 years ago to Kent, to be with my partner. My family are now 4.5 hours away! And his are 1.5 hours away! I’m so worried and nervous about being so far away from everyone! But I know we will manage somehow! My mums going to come and stay with me for a couple of weeks when my partner goes back to work. Xxx

@Paige it’s scary isn’t it! We’re lucky that we both work from home so I’ll have my partner if I need him and I think my mum might do the same, come and stay for a few days when baby is here! We’ll get through it, yes! 🩵

Hey! This was us, we where 3 hours from his family and 2 from mine for the first 3.5 months (we just moved near the in-laws) honestly it’s ok. I’m now further from my family which is rough because we are so close but when we see each other we just really make the most of it. I think compared to people who have family super close from day one to help out, it’s for sure harder. But you’ll know no different. We just cracked on doing it by our selves in the beginning. It became our normal. Baby groups will be your lifeline for meeting other mums and we just really leant on each other. If one of us needed to “tap out” (this is mainly the first 4-6 weeks, it gets easier I promise!) there was no judgement, the other would take over. Good luck, I’m sure it will be ok! When family do come over, pass the baby and get some you time haha! Xx
