Doctors taking days to respond

Does anyone else have doctor offices who will take days to respond to their inquiry? I'm taking an antibiotic and started feeling abdominal pain. The medication says to contact your doctor right away if something like this happens, so I wrote to my doctor yesterday. No response. I write back today, and it's nearly the end of the day. No response. I call, which is even worse cause of wait times, no response. Is it just my doctors office, or is this the norm? I just thought things were considered more urgent when you're pregnant, but it doesn't seem to be the case sadly. I'm in California FYI. If this is not normal then I need to switch.

For me it was fairly common. I also happen to work in a doctors office so I see both sides. Normally the doctors are there for non urgent matters. If I ever felt side effects or something was off I was advised and also have let patients know to go to urgent care for any urgent matters. I would definitely look for an urgent care that can see you as most doctors offices unfortunately are always slammed and take a while to respond to inquiries.

Do you have Kaiser? I feel like they never respond to me

From my experience, if it’s urgent I was given a number to call rather than sending a generic message or email. I was able to speak to someone right away. (Depends what insurance you have I suppose). I’m in CA too

thats why i always had my husband call for me

If you have Kaiser there’s an advice nurse hotline that you can call at anytime and speak to a nurse… I’ve done that a few times when having certain symptoms.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I'm actually with ucla health and I'm not sure if they have an advice nurse or anything like that. It seems this is the norm which sucks. I'll try urgent care if I don't hear back. I'd rather go there than emergency room since with my insurance it's very expensive.

I have ucla too and this is 100% normal. UCLA has urgent cares and they have virtual appointments!

Oh I didn't know that they had their own urgent care. I'll look into that. Thanks
