@Kianna did the fruit juice give you heartburn at all? Im on the lower side of normal throughout the whole day but the biggest drop I have is in the middle of night which coincidentally is when my heartburn is at it’s peak :(
Not really, but I’d make it fresh with no added sugar. I suggest non citrus if you get heartburn a more. I used to make my own mango juice. What has your GP told you? Or your obgyn?
@Kianna I will have to try that! Basically I need to eat or drink something every 3-4 hours to keep it elevated so that means setting an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to drink or eat something which is driving me insane. I haven’t seen my gp as this wasn’t a problem I was having before becoming pregnant, my ob doesn’t seem too worried about it as long as I can keep it up, even if it is on the lower side of normal.
Hm your ob should’ve set you up to see a dietician and specialist for your hypoglycemia. I haven’t heard of waking up to eat or drink something every 3-4 hours even in sleep. I’d definitely request to see someone to see what their professional opinion is. Do you by chance have diabetes? Not gestational diabetes, but regular because that can be a cause of hypoglycemia during pregnancy. If that’s the case you need to talk to a specialist urgently. Sounds like you can maybe even be anemic if your symptoms are sleepiness.
@Kianna we set up a “diet” which is just the eating or drinking something like milk every 3-4 hours. My levels stay normal if I do that, if I go too long like 5-6 hrs without eating or having a drink besides water then it gets pretty close to 70 if not below. The first night we tested, that we realized what was happening it got down to 50, since then with me drinking something in the middle of the night it’s stayed high 70’s or in the 80’s. I’m not diabetic or anemic they have tested me for both. They said hypoglycemia can happen in pregnancy with non diabetics although it’s rare that it occurs. According to them I just have an overproduction of insulin while pregnant due to hormones and the changes in the way my body breaks down glucose.
Oh I see. Just be careful! When I say I drank juice I meant a few sips to help because drinking too much can spike it up. Hoping the best for you and your baby 🫶🏼
Maybe eating half a banana or some grapes can help too!
Hello I'm having a similar problem, I don't have gestational diabetes and I'm not diabetic but I'm struggling to keep my blood sugars above 4mmol. Just had an overnight stay in hospital because I had 3 readings low in one day. I'm eating so much to try keep them up but especially over night they just drop. I don't know what else to try. Drs just seem confused and giving me conflicting advice. You had any further advice or anything improved?
@Gemz when I was asleep that’s when mine would drop super low also! The only thing that has helped me is keeping some OJ or a snack beside the bed and setting an alarm for at the very most 3-4 hrs so I can wake up and drink or eat something! Since I started doing that I’ve been able to keep my sugar up. It’s definitely aggravating having to wake up to do that but the closer you get to labor the more you wake up in the middle of the night to pee anyways so it gets easier!
I feel like I was misdiagnosed with GD my first pregnancy because I had very, very low blood sugar and they were convinced I had GD because of that nasty drink.. anyways I was always super tired and drinking a little fruit juice would help
