So I was high risk in my first pregnancy due to icp and they said it wouldn't be until my 36 week appt I then went to my 36 week appt and my midwife was sick so they said they'd talk to me about it next time I then needed to he induced at 37!!!!!
I’m high risk and we’ve not discussed it as of yet. I have GD, previous preterm & infant loss and BMI too. 30 weeks today and I cannot wait to have a plan in place. I do have another growth scan as baby boys belly was a bit higher than they’d like and I want an elective c-section so going to bring it up at my next consultant meeting x
@Ellie-May I wasn't high risk but had GD and I was induced at 39+3 Was booked in a week before so didn't know until then what might happen. They made this decision based on growth scan. So all very last min x
I was advised mine would be done at my 34 week midwife Apt. I'm classed as high risk so every area must do things differently x
My last midwife appointment was at 31 weeks, and she told me start researching and making notes to discuss for our next appointment when I'll be 33.
The normal is to do it at 36 weeks. With my first they mentioned it early and told me to think about it for the 36 week appointment. Because I ended in an emergency section they automatically referred me to a consultant at 17 weeks to discuss my options. I’m having an elective section and got it all booked in now x
So like others have said typically at the 34 or even 36 week appointment! But given your midwife is unlikely to be there on the day you give delivery. Each hospital is different but I’ve never even seen the same midwife twice! I’d say it’s up to you to create your birth plan. Of course you’ll want to ask questions and there may be specific guidance as you are high risk. But generally from experience it’s a pretty casual affair. And I get it, birth can’t really be planned for so a lot of midwives can brush over it. So this is why I’d say you need to take full control on making a plan, making sure your birth partner knows the plan, print copies so they can easily be given to whoever on the day. There’s lots of great templates online and ones that allow for the twists & turns of birth. It’s less about being fixated on one idea of birth but trying to make your experience a positive one whatever that looks like and deciding on things like skin to skin, placenta delivery, vitamin k etc.
Look at The Positive Birth Company as they have some templates online. And resources like Midwife Pip.
Yes my birth talk is booked for 36 weeks too which I thought was quite late
In my first pregnancy the midwife didn't discuss it with me once. And they never asked me in hospital either. My advice is for you to bring it up with them when you are ready to discuss it rather than waiting for them to discuss it with you.
With my first I made a rough birth plan in my notebook and just kept it in my hospital bag in case I went before we had chance to discuss it, and made my partner and my mum both aware of what I wanted in case for whatever reason I couldn't tell them myself. 36 weeks is way too late to be discussing it but they won't do it any earlier for some reason🤷🏼♀️
Thanks all! I'll bring it up in my next clinic! I am high risk with high BP, GD and now also Pulmonary Embolism 🫁 😳 😅 my next clinic is at 32 weeks so will ask the question! X
When I asked originally at my like 16 week appointment- they said you discuss the birth plan at 36 weeks. Which i thought was CRAZYYYY late! I’m not sure how it works for high risk pregnancies- my only risk factor at the time was BMI, however now I have GD it may change as it’s possible that baby may need to come sooner rather than later. I have an appointment on wednesday and I will ask! xxx
