In the dark

I had my 38 week midwife appointment today (I'm 38+5). I would have expected them to check if the baby is engaged at all, or if I'm at all dilating... But nothing. I have an appointment booked for 40+1 in case baby hasn't arrived by then but I just feel like I'm in the dark.

Me too! Didn’t even discuss my birth plan with me at this appointment or nothing at all, I feel completely in the dark too.

They don't check till 40 weeks

mine was the same all that was checked was if the baby was head down. It’s so bad that you don’t really get to find anything out at midwife appointments I kinda think they’re pointless tbh x

@Rebecca but I always see posts on here from women who are 36-38 weeks saying that their baby is engaged X/5 or they're dilated Xcm Just don't get why all of us aren't having the same information given to us at the point where literally anything could happen, we're just completely blind at this point

@India they usually put on your notes x/5 engaged but they don't usually check dilation till 40 weeks. May be different at different trusts/different areas

Same I felt the 38 week appointment was pretty pointless lol just listened to the heartbeat that was it! 40+1 I get a sweep and cervical check

They only check dilation if they are doing an early sweep. On your badger notes if she felt the baby was engaged it will appear on there.

@Maddie badger notes??

@Rebecca nothing was put in my notes about engagement. I just wish it was the same across the board. I'm due in 9 days and only wanted some kind of indication to what to expect

@India ah here we have an app called badger where all our notes are online. It’s just replaced the paper notes

@Rebecca my midwives haven’t written in my notes once, considering it’s my first pregnancy I feel quite abandoned with the care I’ve received 🥹😞

I’m in the same position, I’m 40+1 and have asked for a sweep which they won’t look to do until Monday. Even then, as it’s close to Christmas they may not do it as there’s a chance she could come Christmas Day. Throughout my whole pregnancy any time I asked my midwife anything I just got told to speak to triage. I feel like I have just been left which isn’t ideal when it’s my first xx
