Metformin typically helps your body use insulin more effectively. It could be your body isn’t making enough and you could need insulin to supplement

They will probably put you into insulin, I take insulin 4 times a day have done since being 7 weeks pregnant x

@Kirsty how do you find the insulin

@Zainab your doctor can prescribe it

@Samantha oh alright because I started taking metformin last week Thursday but the results are not really stable

@Zainab you may also need to give it more time to really settle into your system? Is it extended release? How many mg?

@Samantha 500mg

Include eating a lot of kale in your meals

I had this and I cut out pasta and potatoes ate lots of salad and veggies and that stabled mine I was on metformin and then insulin the last few weeks

@Zainab your diabetic consultant should go through your results with your and do a blood test and if they feel like insulin is needed they will set you up and show you how to use it , and then write to your doctors to ask them to put it on to your prescription list for you to order it when you start to run out, it doesn’t hurt sometimes stings but only slightly x

@Kirsty oh ok thank you

I had the same during my pregnancy and followed a planned diet I did myself and was also using insulin and still able to eat pasta long as it's brown and rice long as its brown too. I found having planned meals helpful.

I had GD and I managed mine by diet. Eat low sugar fruits like apple, berries, plums, peaches with nuts like almonds. When you have a meal make sure you have protein, carbs and veg and always eat the veg first, this all helped me so I didn’t have to take metformin. I cut all sugar out like chocolate cakes etc and switched to sweeteners.

I used to diet. Made lettuce wrap using lettuce, chedder cheese, tomatoes and cucumbers and used the eat the veggies as a salad too. They have less sugar than most. Carrots were ok too. I had eggs two eggs and a slice of bread as breakfast and used to eat blueberries and strawberries as a snack. Sour fruits has less sugar. Lettuce wrap helped to deal with hunger as I was able to eat as much as I can. Also after main meal I used to slow walk for an hour and after snacks I did about 20-30 minutes. That helped to digest the food and help lower sugar levels.
