Badger notes

Hey I’m in Glasgow and had a real ** of a midwife. She’s not published any notes at all on badger notes, I feel really in the dark in regards to my care. I am 24 weeks and feel extremely clueless, never been weighed, nothing on the growth chart, I’m moving midwife because I’m also moving house should I ask to have my notes published? I’d like to see the notes on my appointments.

Ask to move midwives asap and complain , you need to know what’s happening with your pregnancy and baba

100%, speak to a different midwife and they should be able to publish them onto Badger. I had the same issue ☺️

@Amy thank u! Did they just publish all the ones from your previous appointments? Did they say any reason as to why they hadn’t? Feels odd x

They would have to go through your previous appointments to do so but just complain that you were promised that it would be done and it hasn’t. They were forgetful, the most issues I had were with my scans. They never updated the app x

This happened to me my full pregnancy with my son. Notes were never published.

@Shannon did you ever question it? Or need to? It’s my first baby I have a lot of anxiety and feel like everyone speaks to me like I’m on baby number 10 and should know everything xx

I gave birth to my first baby in the royal in 22 and never even got told about badger notes or given access to them 🙃 I would try not to stress about them too much. You’re moving midwife anyway and you can always ask her for an appointment or phone call to just go over your worries and settle your nerves! X

Although I sympathise with your anxiety and worries in all honesty I wouldn't read into the badger app situation too much. I think badger notes is a pretty crap system nationwide tbh. I work for the NHS (in Glasgow) and I would say it's wasted money. I would just delete the app and ask for your results when you see your teams. Your GP will also have access to any results so you could check in with them if you can't get a hold of a midwife. If you feel face to face appointments aren't what you are expecting or hoping for absolutely speak up. You should feel reassured and just remind them you are new to all of this and you need more understanding. Many people are in autopilot and honestly I think maternity need to push pause sometimes and remember how nerve-wracking this can be.

I didn’t question it but I didn’t even have a set in stone midwife until I was 26 weeks as they were understaffed and that was my first pregnancy too. Had no birth plan until 40 weeks too. The maternity services are shocking just now nationally and I don’t think it’s the midwives fault they’re just totally overworked so I never asked further. My midwife was very good in face to face appointments though x

You would only have been weighed at your booking appointment, but I have heard some places don't weigh any more .. not sure if that's right. And they don't start the growth chart until you're 28 weeks in most places? Not that I'm defending her as there's alot of other info that should be on there like blood pressures etc, but personally I wouldn't say that the info on badger notes ever made me feel like I knew what was going on with my care, other than recording my blood pressure, wee sample results etc, I got that feeling from my actual appointments. Hopefully when you move you'll feel more informed though

@Cathy I would have no idea 🤣🤣 no idea what blood pressure is, assume pee has been fine not been told otherwise

You would/should have been told at the appointment when it was done if it wasn't ok so I would always assume no news is good news on that front, but it sounds like there's just a complete lack of trust between you and your midwife so hopefully the new one will put your mind at rest and you'll build a better relationship with her. You don't need badgernotes to record everything, you need a good midwife who you can trust at your appointment. Are you moving trusts or just midwife?

I was only weighed at the booking appointment and they don't start attacking growth until later as far as I'm aware, more like 28 weeks I believe and that's only from fundal height so isn't all that accurate anyway. Defo ask for notes to be published though

I just had a baby at the end of September and nothing important was on Badger Notes. Just routine blood & urine results etc. As others have said, they will always tell you or contact you if any tests come back with issues. No news is good news. I was only weighed at the very end, around 37 weeks, in case they needed to calculate anaesthesia during birth. Other than that it was just belly measurements but not until 28 weeks or so. Again as others have said, this is an approximate measure of growth. With regards to feeling in the dark, is there something specific you were expecting at this stage? Or is it more general anxiety? I found reading the NHS inform webpages about pregnancy helpful and I also signed up for a weekly email from Tommys which I found helpful for learning what was going on. The more I educated myself about what to expect, the more calm I felt 💗

When you said you don't know what blood pressure is ... Assume pee is fine... Like many have said ... If there was anything concerning they would raise it with you. If you want to know about those things I would ask at the appointment. The numbers will be there on the blood pressure machine... Just a simple "is that blood pressure ok? Is that normal?" They will obviously answer you. Same with your urine dip. If they published these on badger and you don't really know what they mean then you would only worry with the results because you wouldn't be sure what you are looking at. Again if you have had a bad experience with a midwife I'd deffo speak up because thats not fair.... However.... You also need to just speak up generally. If people don't know you want that info ... And it's not really anything that needs to be disclosed because everything is normal... They aren't mind readers? I bet if you engage more at the next appointment they would be happy to answer any queries you have....
