Diagnosed on Xmas Eve

I have just had a voicemail to say I have Gestational Diabetes - 3pm on Christmas Eve! I don’t have an appointment now until New Years Eve to discuss it as I couldn’t get through to anyone at the clinic. Any words of reassurance or information would be helpful ☹️

Honestly babe will be okay don't go super strict over Christmas, enjoy yourself. Just go for a walk if you can after meals and if you do have a sugary treat so be it until you can track your sugars lol x

Try not to panic. I felt awful about my initial diagnosis but got to know what foods worked for me and I think some of the lessons will be valuable for wider life e.g. start with vegetables, movement after meals, prioritise protein and healthy fats It's ok to be sad initially, the prospect of finger pricking and having to be careful about what you eat and extra monitoring of bubba is understandably a bit stressful. But you will be ok, it is manageable, and you will find what works for you. If you don't have an appointment til after Christmas, I wouldn't be super strict. Enjoy yourself, just eat all the veg and try to get some movement.

Dont worry. Its really not as bad as I first thought and dont restrict yourself over Xmas its just a couple of days. Message me if you want any info xx

This happened to me I found out I had GD I was going away for a long weekend to bsb so I drank and ate like I normally would as I struggle to eat properly at these places anyways as I camp! But don’t be super strict!xx

I had Chinese and chocolate cake on my birthday with GD because they said it’s just 1 day so make it a cheat day. Have a couple cheat days over Christmas they won’t be fussed it’ll be okay

Same here, but I found out through my Labcorp portal this morning. Doctor Google is the only one who could see me today, and I’ve come to the conclusion that we (mom’s) didn’t do anything wrong. Our placenta is to blame, and we only contributed 50% to its development…just saying. Today I decided that I’d learn to balance healthy carbs with protein and fats. I’m not going to deprive myself of the needed calories, and focus on healthier choices. I’ll probably be checking my sugars via finger prick, and plan to log my foods so I can determine which types of foods trigger sugar spikes/dips. Try not to be too hard on yourself, growing a whole little human is exhausting enough. We got this!!

Lots of water with meals. Portion controlled and always pair starches and carbohydrates (potatoes, rice, ect) with a protein (meat, beans, ect) and a veg. Small slices of dessert far between each other with lots of water and maybe some exercise or walking if able.
