Gestational diabetes result

I’ve just had a call from my midwife to say that my GTD results are back. After fast my results were good at 4.6 but post sugar drink were 7.9 which is 0.1 over the threshold of good. She couldn’t give me any more info there and said I had to wait to hear from the diabetes nurse on Monday. Has anyone else been in this situation of so close to the threshold and what was the plan going forward? I’ve been in tears since the phone call as obviously I’m worried about the baby and the plan going forward but being on the cusp I’m unsure if it is even as bad as I’m feeling it is. Any help would be really appreciated <3

I was close to the threshold but the other way. My fasting bloods were the issue rather than after having the sugary drink. I wouldn’t stress about it because no stress is good for the baby. Just eat what you want but try and limit white carbs and sugar. Rice is bad for me apparently but you do get a couple of weeks to see what works and what doesn’t work then you’ll go back for a review. So far I’ve been diagnosed now for 6 weeks and I’ve controlled it by diet alone and no medication has been needed. Just try and stay calm and not stress

I was on the threshold and was diagnosed with it. Was able to keep it in range just from diet which was a plus. I was given the kit and had to test after each meal, and I also lost two stone! It’s not as bad as what you are feeling, I felt the same, but anyone who has a placenta can develop it!

I was exactly the same. 0.1 over the threshold. I was also so upset and cried A LOT when I found out! It will depend on where you are in the country but I had a session with a dietitian and then the diabetes team set me up with a blood glucose monitor and I had to test after every meal every other day. Try not to worry, baby will be fine as long as you manage your levels which you can absolutely do 💪🏻 don’t let anyone scare you too much. My baby was born 41+2 in the end weighing 7lb 4 😊 feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Don’t worry. Baby will be fine. You’ll need to adapt your diet. If it gets worse (which it does as the pregnancy progresses) you may need meds or insulin. Right now it’ll likely just be minimising carbs and balancing any with fats & protein to avoid spiking blood sugar. I had it and baby was perfect xx
