Gestational diabetes?

Anyone else worried about having Gestational Diabetes? I feel like every time I eat something sweet I crash on the couch 😅😅 just really not looking forward to this upcoming test.

Oh no :( that’s not a good sign. I’d avoid sweets the best you can. I had GD with my first pregnancy so I was a lil concerned, but this time I’m not eating really any sweets. I have less of a sweet tooth this time and I don’t feel tired after. I’m personally opting out of the test, but I’m choosing to prick my finger everyday till I prove I don’t have GD or I give birth. My GD was diet controlled last time because it was mild and I didn’t need medication so I’ll be doing the same this time around. Praying for you mama. That test is the worst and honestly really unhealthy :( see if you can opt for “the fresh test”

@Kianna you should see about getting a continuous glucose monitor. It’s a little pod that sits on your arm or stomach and reads how your sugar levels change throughout the day and sends the data to your phone. Will also alert you if sugar is dropping to low or raising too fast. Idk if insurance will cover it though since you don’t have diabetes but I’ll say it’s Sooo many patients find it much nicer than having to keep pricking your finger.

@Alexis oh yeah I used one my last pregnancy. It was unfortunately super inaccurate and they’re expensive at least here in California. Technically having gestational diabetes does mean you have diabetes during that time period so they’ll cover a trial time, but after that 😅 it’s very pricey.

@Kianna what’s unhealthy about it

@Ken well starting with the 50 grams that you have to chug in under 5 minutes? 😅 depending on which drink you get it also has dyes and ingredients like citric acid, FD&C Yellow #6, or FD&C Red #40

@Kianna aww I’m sorry to hear yours was in accurate. We just them all of the time with your diabetic patients and don’t normally run into this problem. But I do agree they are very expensive if your insurance isn’t up to covering it. Best of luck to you though!!

@Alexis thank you! I just have my husband prick my finger in the morning before I notice 😂😂🫶🏼

@Kianna yea I get that’s a large amount of sugar but thats kinda the whole point of seeing how your body responds to that and the implications of it. Several flavors have no dyes in it so that point is invalid. Oranges and lemons have citric acid in them naturally. It’s not unhealthy. So that point is invalid too

@Kianna also didn’t you recommend “the fresh test” to a commenter above? That also has 50g and crystallized lemon so citric acid as well?

@Ken okay exactly? If you’re not used to that, that’s an insane amount. You can also just prick your finger for two weeks multiple times a day and get results that way which is what I plan to do. The fresh test is a better alternative believe it or not. It at least doesn’t have the dyes the other one has. Citric acid made in a lab is different than the ones they derive from fruits. All the tests in the labs have artificial flavor and color. Fresh test claims they don’t. It’s not super healthy obviously, but it’s way healthier than the ones they offer
